I freeze.

Shit!

“Yeah?” I manage to croak out. I’m still trying to catch my breath.

“Did you call me? I thought I heard my name.”

Shit, shit, shit!

“Nope. Just grabbing a shower. Worked up a bit of a sweat,” I call back.

“Okay…” She hesitates. “I was asleep. Maybe I dreamed it or something.”

“Sure. Maybe you did.” Guilt floods me. The woman’s been out there sleeping peacefully while I’ve been in here, pumping my cock to thoughts of what I’d like to do to her. I’m a sick bastard.

“Well…” She still seems hesitant. “I’ll be out here when you’re done. It’s not like I’m going anywhere, right?” She gives an odd little giggle.

“Yep. Be right out.” I stay frozen for a moment before soaping myself again vigorously in the hope of washing away the scent of what I’ve just done. Then I quickly shut off the water and grab a towel to dry off. This is fucking ridiculous.

You’re losing it, Law.

I quickly dress in sweatpants and a T-shirt before heading back out. She looks at me strangely when she sees me. Or maybe it’s just my conscience talking.

“Was it good?” she asks.

“What?” I say sharply. Jeez, did she know what I was doing?

“Your workout.”

“Oh. Right. Yeah…great. Saw Casey.” I’m fumbling for words.

“She doesn’t like me.” Sierra’s lips turn down.

I breathe out a sigh of relief as we move to a subject that I can discuss without guilt spiking. “She likes you fine. She’s just naturally suspicious. She’ll get over it.”

“I hope so.” She lowers herself to the bed, smoothing out the covers around her. I try not to imagine her hands sliding over my skin like that. Because yeah, I reallyama sick bastard.

“She will. She’ll love you. Everyone will love you. Who wouldn’t? And once we make our announcement, it’ll all fall into place because Steel Lakes always makes a big deal when wolves pair up.” My mouth is running away with me.

Shut up, you dick.

‘Everyone will love you?’Who says that?

She’s looking at me strangely again, but then she smiles, and the tension dissipates. “You’re right. I’m just being silly.”

“You are.” I rub a towel over my hair, though I really don’t need to. “Anyhow, I could really chow down now. You hungry?” She’s always hungry. This is safe territory.

“You must have really worked yourself up. In the gym.” She grins. “But that’s how you stay so hard, right?”

Is she kidding me?

“Yep. Get your shoes on.”

“Rock hard,” she adds. She reaches for her sneakers, still looking at me as she puts them on. “You’re different from the men back home. They worked a lot in the fields, but they were always a little softer. Even the way you stand is different. You’re like…ramrod stiff, you know? Is that a military thing?”

“Yes.” I drop the towel and head for the door. If she says “hard” or “ramrod” one more time, I’ll be pretty sure she knows I was jacking off in there.

“Well, I like it.” She walks out the door as I hold it open for her. “I think every woman likes a hard man. I know I do.”
