Chapter 32

Diana

The last couple of days have been nothing but training and stolen moments with the guys. Atlas returned a few nights ago with a woman claiming to be my aunt, but I didn’t want to hear it. I didn’t have any relatives; it was just me and my parents until they died.

“M’eudail, just hear her out,” Phoenix said right after he knocked me down for a third time today.

I groaned, not wanting to hear any more from them.

“No! My dad didn’t have any siblings. If he did, he would have told me!” I screamed, crashing my staff against his in a few quick bursts, landing me a couple good hits to his side. I was definitely improving my combat skills. Phoenix wasn’t able to get in as many hits, and I was able to go on offense more.

He grunted in pain after I connected with the side of his knee.

“You're being a brat,” he said in a cold tone.

My stomach twisted at his words; I hated disappointing them.

“Fine, but can we see if my signature weapon will call to me first? Then I’ll listen to what she has to say,” I say in my most pleading voice.

I’ve been waiting days to get my signature weapon. Whenever we enter the weapons room, I never feel drawn to one. Phoenix said it will happen; everyone gets a signature weapon. I was dying to see what mine was.

“Let’s go then,” he said, taking my staff and gesturing for me to lead the way.

I was bouncing on my toes the whole way to the weapons room. Phoenix chose to fight outside the last few days since it cooled off as we crept into the end of November. The south heat was no joke, and I embraced the cooler weather, so there were no complaints from me.

When we entered the weapons room, it was empty; everyone was either out on missions or in other classes. The room was filled with all sorts of deadly-looking weapons. I quickly bypassed the swords, not feeling a pull towards any of them, just like last time.

Open your mind, Diana; you're strung out and too anxious. The weapon will never call to you if your mind is clouded with stress and worry.

“Easier said than done, Isarr,” I mumbled to my familiar. He was out in the woods with his pack, but he always knew what I was doing and where I was at any given moment.

I decided to try what Eros told me; closing my eyes, I took a few steady, deep breaths and let my mind take over. He was always pushing meditation, so why not see if it would work to find my weapon. My feet started moving on their own accord. Keeping my eyes closed, I walked till I came to a halt. Slowly opening my eyes, I found I was in front of a cage with deadly-looking daggers.

I was bubbling with excitement; I’ve never made it this far. Okay, focus, listen for the whisper Eros said would be there.

I blocked out everything around me and looked at the multitude of daggers. Suddenly, I reached out and grabbed a pair of deep black daggers. They were beautiful; the blade was as black as onyx, with a pair of wolves at the base of the hilt. Green and purple twisted up along each one like vines to a huge jade crystal at the top. I instantly felt the connection; all the hairs on my arms stood up when I touched them.

A broad grin spread across my face, but before I turned to Phoenix, I was drawn to another cage. This one was full of bows.

Taking both the daggers in one hand, I reached out and caressed the beautiful red and black bow. It was magnificent; Redwood stretched out in two long curves with a black taught string connecting each end. The red blended to a beautiful black. Next to it was a red quiver with a wolf embossed on it. Filled with sleek black arrows. Taking hold of the bow and quiver, I turned to face Phoenix, suddenly feeling worried.

No one had two signature weapons that I know of, but the thought of choosing between the two in my hands made my stomach twist in knots.

“Diana, are you positive both of them called to you?” Phoenix said. His brows were pinched together with a worried expression on his face.

I looked down at the daggers in one hand and the bow in the other, unable to put either down. It was like they were a part of my soul; the thought of losing one would break me.

“I can’t bring myself to part with either; it feels like losing a limb to put either of them back,” I said, slowly raising my head to meet Phoenix. His eyes were wide, and understanding flashed across his face before a huge grin spread across his lips. In the next instant, he wrapped me in his arms, spinning around before setting me down again and cupping my cheeks.

“M’eudail, this is fucking fantastic. You have two signature weapons; I don’t know if that has ever happened, but who fucking cares. You are a badass!” He said before kissing me. I moaned into his mouth, loving the way his lips feel against mine.

We haven’t had sex yet; it’s not because of lack of trying on either end. Something or someone always interrupts us, and that someone is always Atlas. He seems to come in at the most annoying times. At that thought, a door opened, already knowing who it was that was interrupting us.

“Sorry to intrude, but Apollo wants to see everyone,” Atlas said.

I pulled back from Phoenix to glare at Atlas; this man was really turning into a cock blocker. I don’t know how he always popped up right before me and Phoenix could do anything. Like, did he have a sixth sense for my vagina? Did he always know when I was needy and hoping for sex?

“You couldn’t have given us a half hour or something,” I said, annoyed.
