I stop on the sidewalk, a little lost for a second. I guess I’ll just… go home? Early. Without feeding. The fuck? Yeah, I definitely need to find Kyson. Apparently, we have unfinished business and I need to figure out why.
Chapter 4
KYSON
Stepping into the store, there’s an unusual bounce in my step. I’ve been floating ever since Thorn smiled at me last night. I wish I could’ve stayed or even woken up with him, but I’m not dumb enough to think that could ever be a reality.
Leaving before he asked me to was the only move that made sense after the mind-blowing semi-public sex. It was everything I’d hoped for and more. Turns out my idea to push out of my comfort zone was a good one. Spectacular, actually.
“Look at the cat who ate the canary,” Sandra, my favorite coworker says as she sidles up beside me at the coffeemaker. “Good night?”
“Best night ever.” I pull down my favorite mug from the drying shelf, the one that has Edgar Allen Poe on it and the quote, “Nevermore. Well, maybe a little more.” I snort a laugh every morning when I see it.
“What happened?” Sandra asks.
I pour my coffee, then add enough sugar and cream to block the horrid taste of it. Sandra waits patiently, her expression full of expectation.
“I met the sexiest man alive.”
Sandra tilts her head. “You met Henry Cavill?”
I pull my head back. “No, Sandra. Not Henry. A man named Thorn. Isn’t that sexy?”
“Ooh, it is. You really went out on your own?”
“I did.” I smile proudly, sipping the terrible coffee. “You and Manny were right. It’s time for me to grab life by the horns and ride it.”
She giggles. “I don’t think we said ride it, but hey, that works too.”
I know I’m blushing, but it’s fun to be able to tell someone what happened. “He was a dream. He seemed to actually be into me.”
“Why wouldn’t he be? You’re gorgeous, Ky.”
“I don’t know about that. Anyway, it was great. I felt like…” I shrug. “I don’t know. Like someone cool and fun.”
She smiles. “I’m glad he was nice. Did you get his number?”
“No, nothing like that. It was just a moment in time.” I sigh. “It was beautiful though.”
“I’m so excited for you.”
“What are we excited about?” Neal, my terrible ex and unfortunately my manager, asks as he enters the breakroom.
All the syrupy joy I felt seconds ago is gone in a flash. “Nothing,” I mumble.
“Not true, Ky,” Sandra says, practically glaring at Neal. “Kyson had an amazing date last night.”
I nudge her arm with my elbow, but it doesn’t stop her at all.
“He’s practically glowing,” she continues.
Neal glances at me, his eyes lingering on mine for a second before he pulls his gaze away and focuses on his coffee prep. “Good for you.”
Sandra hooks her arm through mine. “Come on, Ky. You can finish telling me about how big his dick was.”
“Sandra,” I whisper, totally scandalized.
“That big, huh?” she says, dragging me out of the room.
