“Thank you.”

“This is so exciting.”

“I know!” I squeal with a little hop, then walk back to sit in the chair by my desk, opposite her.

“And you look so happy. This guy has done wonders for you.”

“I feel that, too. Thanks so much for making tonight possible for me.”

“Of course. You know I’ll do anything for you. Especially when it comes to this. I’m rooting for you and Luc.” She lowers her voice when she says Luc’s name.

Dad is here. He worked from home today.

Zoe is part of my plan so she’s dressed up, too, but she’s not exactly going with me.

My best friend has agreed to be another one of my diversions. Tonight, my parents think Zoe and I are going out to dinner then off to a club.

I covered myself for the rest of the night and tomorrow by letting them know I’ll be staying at the manor to do research. So I get Luc all to myself for nearly two days.

“So, what’s the plan for the rest of the night and tomorrow?”

“All I know is we’re going to the club first. He’s keeping the rest a secret but honestly, I don’t care what we do. It’s just nice being with him.”

“And I’m sure the lure of hot sex isn’t bad either.” Zoe giggles, clasping her hands and giving me a mischievous grin.

“I can’t argue with that.” Usually I’d scoff at her or play down any talk of sex, but hot sex is definitely on the menu when it comes to Luc Le Blanche. We can’t keep our hands off each other. Even when I’m not with him, asleep or awake, I can still feel him with me. He’s in my mind and coursing through my veins.

“My God, listen to you. I want you to always be like this.”

“It’s the guy getting to my head.” I grin back at her.

“Yes, ma’am. It certainly is.”

“Everything seems to be falling into place for us to be together. Being with Luc feels like the universe’s way of givingme some grace from the shitty time I’ve had over the last few months.”

I’ve even managed to see Dr. Matthews three times, including today, and get through her sessions without feeling like I wanted to rip my hair out.

Granted, I’ve also been speaking to Dr. Francis, and she’s helped immensely to calm me and give me the hope I desperately need to deal with my father.

“People say good things come to those who wait. You’ve proved that to be true.”

I smile at that. “I think so.”

“I’m also glad you didn’t allow your father to stop you.” She lowers her voice again and nods.

“I know the whole thing is risky, but I just couldn’t allow him to take this from me. I’ve never met anyone like Luc before. I knew that if I said no I’d be robbing myself of happiness.”

“Amen to that. And maybe there might be a little more enticement for you to stay in New York.”

I laugh. “Zoe, it’s been two weeks. People don’t make life-changing decisions like that after two weeks of dating.”

“Maybe so, but you guys have been jonesing for each other since February. It’s almost April now, so that’s a long time in my books.” She nods with conviction, as if that can authenticate her comment.

“How about I just enjoy this?”

“Sure, that works, too. Now I just need a hot guy to find me.” She pouts and I shake my head at her.

“Zoe, don’t you usually have a date for every night of the week? And you don’t date anyone unless they’re a close match for a Hemsworth brother, Henry Cavill, or Brad Pitt back in the day when he was inFight Club.” I laugh harder as I rattle off her list of specifications.
