“Just keep it within reason, OK? House cat kidneys can’t process that much un-hydrolyzed protein all the time.”
“What?” I say to each of their confused faces. “I did my research. I didn’t just pick a diet food for him at random.”
Vrahs steps closer, reaching for me and again not making contact. “It’s sweet that you care enough to make such an effort.”
I stand, gazing up at him. “It’s sweet that you would run through Laurel Cove with your dick out to rescue me,” I say with an impish grin.
The tip of Vrahs’s nose goes pink, and faster than I can see, he grabs me around the waist and hoists me over his shoulder. His smoky leather scent wraps around me and my head swims.
“Are you making fun of me, witch?” he asks and lands a sharp smack on my ass.
I squeal with surprised delight, and that makes Vrahs’s chest vibrate with a deep chuckle.
He spins around and hauls me off, hopefully to someone’s bedroom. I lift my head enough to see Ryker and Thorne lingering in the entryway.
Not following us.
“Come on, boys. What are you waiting for?”
“If you don’t mind,” Vrahs rumbles against my butt. “I’m finding myself in need of some alone time with my witch.”
I told you so.Chonk’s voice echoes in my mind, and I try not to think about him smelling the sex I’m about to have.
When I don’t respond, Vrahs pauses in the hallway. “Is that alright?”
Is it?
What do I want?
I push against Vrahs’s back, and he puts me down. Even in his humanoid form, he’s still so tall, but I stare up at those icy eyes all the same. “Honestly, I think I need all of you.”
He studies my face carefully, searching for something. “Fine. But I get to lead.”
I shake my head. “Sorry. I’m in charge.”
Vrahs’s mouth pulls down into a deep frown. “You’re killing me, Jade.”
I know it’s a big ask. I want Vrahs to act in opposition to his nature. But it’s what I need right now. I don’t know how I know that. Only that I know it.
I motion to Ryker and Thorne to join us.
Vrahs tucks a lock of hair behind my ear. “But for you, the mate who slew her enemy in the most gruesome, painful manner, I will.”
I give him a cheesy grin. “Thanks. Now come on.” I tug at his wrist and head off down the hallway, without a clue as to whose room I’ll end up in.
Turns out, the first door I open is Vrahs’s office, and it seems as good a room as any.
The moment Thorne shuts the door, the energy shifts.
There’s a live wire of anticipation in the air, crackling over my skin, blowing out my demon’s pupils.
They encircle me, and for several moments we stay like that. Smoky leather, and Ryker’s warm cashmere, and Thorne’s winterberry scents mingle in my nose.
Close but not touching. Our breaths grow shallow and ragged as we breathe the same air and allow the electrified tension to build.
“I’m sorry I went off alone and got myself in this mess,” I murmur.
Six hands on me and three soothing voices telling me not to worry.
