“Whether he will or won’t stand with us, it doesn’t change what we must do. All I want to think about now is you.”
I turned in his embrace and wrapped my arms around his neck. He lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist. We kissed, our lips devouring each other as he slowly laid us on the bed. Very well then, I’d call Kendrick after I gave my mate one hell of a ride.
Chapter ten
Kendrick
Isatatthehead of my council table with Elliot at my side. My council members were on either side of the table with Kian and Belinda on one side and Hexon and Valier on the other. Kian was wearing a robe, as I’d interrupted his time with Adrian. Everyone else was dressed in simple attire. I’d tossed on a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt, as had Elliot. His hair was still damp from the shower we’d been fucking in when Hexon interrupted us.
“Your Highness, Tylendel has arrived, should we let him in?” Valier questioned.
I shook my head. “Not yet. We need to have this discussion.”
“Very well, my Liege,” Valier stated.
“So, you all know the situation, do we send aid?” I asked, getting back to the matter of the meeting.
“No. As far as I’m concerned, this eliminates a problem,” Kian said. “You never wanted an alliance to begin with. Théoden forced you into one.”
“In exchange for his life,” Hexon said. “An alliance was made, and should be honored.”
“I say fuck them,” Elliot said.
“This vampire who’s attacking them, if he’s as strong as Ara says, he’s the bigger threat,” Belinda stated. Her long black hair was braided down her back as if she were already prepared for battle. She was even wearing loose clothing, easy to transform out of.
“I mean, if he kills Ara and his vampires, we can kill him and what’s left of his army and take over all of that territory. That’s more appealing to me. Besides, it seems like his beef is only with Ara, anyway. Let them thin the herd and whoever wins, we clean house,” Kian said.
“So, you’re suggesting we render our alliance null and void?” Valier asked with a sneer on his lips as if he thought the notion was distasteful. He turned his hazel/green gaze to me, I guess wanting to see my reaction. He was quite beautiful too, like every dragon. I’d had the pleasure of his full, shapely lips on my cock shortly after I took over. He was over fifty-five hundred years old. With so many powerful and ancient dragons and wolves in my army, I didn’t fear this Alexander. Sure, he may be immune to the sun, fire, and our venoms, but he could still die. And was he immune to true dragon fire? The ones from my pure dragon Knights? I seriously doubted it.
“We never needed that flimsy-ass alliance in the first place. Ara did. Vampires need someone to protect them during the day, we don’t. In any case, I’m sure Alexander’s head can fly off his body with a silver sword all the same. Let the vampires deal with their own issues. Why is he even attacking Ara anyway? What’s their bad blood?” Kian asked, waving his hand dramatically.
I sat back listening to my council debate the situation and I was leaning more toward Kian’s suggestion. Fact of the matter was, I didn’t want to have to align myself with Ara. Théoden was quite crafty.
“Ara and Evander ran his army out of this territory over two hundred years ago. You’re sitting on his land as well, my Liege. You think he won’t want to reclaim it?” Hexon stated.
I arched an eyebrow at that. “He can try,” I said. “I’m not weak or vulnerable like Ara and his vampires. And now that I’m aware of their strengths, I won’t be making the same mistake I made with Théoden.”
“Ex-act-ly,” Kian said, with a clap of his hands for every syllable.
“Also, you have me,” Elliot said with a wink. “You weren’t fully mated then. We’re stronger now. Also, I’m willing to bet Josef would rather toss his chips in with us than be bound to Ara. So, if this Alexander does think he’s going to challenge us, he’ll be taking on a force bigger than he can handle and far more powerful.”
Kian smacked his lips. “We don’t need Josef either. Besides, his mate is linked to Ara. He’ll most likely be fighting on their side.”
“What even happens if one of those vampire Royals dies?” Belinda asks.
“It’s believed that every vampire will die,” Hexon said.
“Which might mean Josef will lose his mate and won’t want to be in an alliance with you. And we’ll lose Théoden as a powerful Knight. His vampire skills are an asset, my Liege,” Valier said.
“So? And?” Kian's expression said it all. “We don’t need Josef. When this is all over, we can take over his territory too and have all of it. Any wolves who survive out of his pack can join ours and get the hook up. And yes, losing Théoden will be a bit of a sting… I guess, but we have Tylendel, who more than makes up for it.”
“Let’s not forget, Deacon is in our alliance, and unlike Théoden, he’ll honor it,” Elliot said, referring to the time when Théoden didn’t help Deacon the night I’d attacked.
Kian scoffed. “His wolves would make good cannon fodder.”
Elliot growled, his eyes glowing yellow. “Watch your fucking mouth or I’ll rip your throat out.”
Kian froze, but didn’t say anything. He could feel Elliot’s intensity, his rage, because I could too. I was certain we all could. A heat that rippled through us almost like a fever, that potent. It wasn’t like it was before we mated when Kian had mouthed off to Elliot. He’d permit none of that now and neither would I.
