“Why are you being so cold?”

I spin around in my chair, glaring daggers at him. “Are you seriously asking that question?”

“Okay,” he relents. “I fucked up. Okay?”

“No.” I fold my arms across my chest. “No, it’s not okay.”

“So this is your revenge?”

I roll my eyes and turn back to my computer. “Please. The ego on you, my God.”

He leans back against my desk. “You’re the one who refuses to stop dating my twin. My literal other half. My own fucking DNA.”

I begin clicking around like I’m trying to work even though I’m not really doing anything. “If you could stop making everything about yourself for two seconds, then you’d remember I was upset that Mack didn’t call. I wanted him. This has nothing to do with you. What was it that you called me again?” I glance up at him, laying on the guilt thick. “Pathetic? Needy? Desperate?”

“I never said any of that.” He grips onto the desk.

“Basically,” I huff, turning back to my computer.

“You’re the one who came swinging with the accusations. Can’t we move on from this?”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to do since the moment it happened. You’re the one who refuses to stop trying to interfere with my love life.”

“Love life?” he asks with a laugh. “No, remember? You don’t believe in love. This is your fuck buddy life. And yes. I’m not letting you sleep with my brother.”

My eyes hit the ceiling. “You’re disgusting.” I can’t hold his eye contact because he’s challenging me with those dumbfuck eyes of his. “And I’m not sleeping with him,” I add. “Not that it’s any of your business.”

“So you’re not going to the lake house next weekend?”

“What?” I ask.

“You said no to the lake house?” he asks again like I know what he’s talking about.

“Is that a metaphor for something?”

“My parents’ lake house? He told me you were coming with us.”

I can’t help my smile. Declan notices. He doesn’t let that fly. “Oh no! Oh, fuck no! Don’t you dare give me that doofy, happy face right now. No, that’s the opposite of what I want.”

“He didn’t ask me yet.” I bite my lip. “He must be really confident I’ll say yes.”

“Stop.”

I ignore him. “Oh! I wonder how he’ll do it! I’m going to need to practice acting surprised. Hey, you ask me, so I can practice. You know, since you have the same face and all.”

“You’re fucking evil, ya know.”

“Declan!” Scott interrupts us. “Am I late? Or are you here early for our nine o’clock?”

Declan gives a small nod. “Just needed to catch Addison up on a few things before.”

“Ahh.” Scott claps his hands together. “I’ll let you get back to it.”

“No, that’s okay. We’re finished,” Declan says before looking back at me. “For now.”
