“Um … I’ve always wanted to go snorkeling. The brochure said there’s a tour for that. Maybe horseback riding? There’s also a shark and stingray feeding excursion. It all looks so amazing.”

She surprised me.

I hadn’t expected much more than a few shopping excursions and way too much time on the beach from Allison. I definitely didn’t think she would actually go in the water. She was more likely to soak up the sun and draw attention wearing a tiny bikini. But the stuff she wanted to do sounded fun. Not to mention, I enjoyed the way her face lit up with the mention of such simple plans. She seemed genuinely excited to do these things that I never in a million years would have imagined her wanting to do.

When we talked about honeymoon destinations, she had pushed for Paris, going on and on about how she wanted to shop there. I had pictured a honeymoon with me carrying bags behind her and utterly bored out of my mind, but what I hadn’t expected was the expression of pure excitement when talking about things like sharks and stingrays.

“Snorkeling, huh?”

She grinned, and there was a touch of innocence in her smile I had never seen before.

“Sure.” She shrugged. “I mean, we might as well take advantage, right?”

I chuckled, shaking my head and enjoying the shift in her since we got married.

“Right. Let’s definitely take advantage.”
