She brought the toast over and I proceeded to eat, my appetite a lot better. Lillian’s phone rang as I was eating and I could tell from her end of the conversation that she was speaking to Maggie. Then Lillian let out a shriek of excitement, jumped up, and as if unable to contain herself she did a little mad dance.

“Oh my God. Oh my God. I knew it. I knew it. Congratulations. I’m so happy for you,” she sang, quite beside herself with joy.

“What was that all about?” I asked when she got off the phone

“Martin finally proposed.”

I looked at her curiously. “Why are you doing the happy dance then?”

“I’m happy for her,” she said simply.

Women were strange creatures. When Chris told me he was marrying Jennifer I was happy for him, but I was not so over the moon happy that I needed to break into a happy dance.

Her phone rang again. “It’s my sister,” she said as she swiped to answer.

“Hey, Rose,” she said, then stiffened. “Is he okay? Okay, good. That’s good. Of course, no problem, the only thing is that I’m not home. Hang on a second.”

She put the call on hold and turned to me. “My brother-in-law has fractured his hand. Is it okay if my sister drops off the kids here for a few hours? Or should I meet them at my apartment?”

“Of course, it’s okay for them to come here.” I’d never been around children, but a part of me was looking forward to the experience if Lillian was going to be there as well.

She shot me a grateful smile and returned to her call. “That’s fine. I’ll send you the address.”

She disconnected the call and grabbed my hand. “You could do with a shower. Let’s go take one together. They’ll be here soon.”

We stripped our clothes and entered the bathroom. Lillian ran the shower until it was lovely and warm, and then she pulled me in.

“Tell me about your nieces,” I invited as I soaped her down.

“Phoebe and Vera are two years old,” she said, a soft look coming over her face. “And they’re the sweetest kids you’ll ever meet. My sister and Dylan have done a great job with them.Phoebe is curious and fearless while Vera is thoughtful. She likes to take her time before trying something new.”

I could feel my cock start to unsicken and get hard as I spread the shower gel over Lillian’s stomach. For some unfathomable, bizarre reason, I imagined her pregnant and a stirring came over me. Images of us together filled my mind.

If I had been alone, I would have laughed out loud at my mad thoughts. I still didn’t even know if she was my enemy and I was already fantasizing about her pregnant with my babies.

Me, who had never had the urge to procreate.

“Are you sure you’re okay about having a couple of two-year-olds in your house for a whole afternoon?” she asked as she soaped me. “They are well-behaved for kids, but they’re still in their terrible twos and they will get into things.”

“Very sure. I’m looking forward to it actually, plus I have something they’ll love.”

“What?”

“Tomo and Tyson. Kids love dogs, don’t they?”

Lillian shook her head decisively. “Nope, the girls are not meeting your dogs. They’re dangerous guard dogs. Who knows how they’ll react to children?”

Chapter 53

Lillian

By the time Rose and Dylan arrived, Max had convinced me his dogs would be great with the girls, we had both climaxed, finished showering, and were decently dressed.

We went out to the car just as Rose stepped out. She wasn’t focused on us because she was too busy taking in her surroundings. I remembered the first time I came here. It seemed so long ago and yet it wasn’t.

The lush surroundings of his home had left me breathless. Max had created his own oasis. Within the compound, it was difficult to believe the city was only a short drive away.

Rose and I hugged, before she turned to Max and I introduced them. They were sizing each other up, but probably Rose more than Max.
