I snorted. “One less thing to worry about.” I forced a smile since I appreciated each of them took their time to sit with me. “You’re all so kind. Thanks for sitting with me.”

“You’re the V.P.’s woman. It’s an automatic acceptance into the ol’ ladies’ club,” Trish snickered. “Welcome.”

“At some point, we’ll get you drunk off your ass and take you to the spa. It’s tradition,” Nylah explained.

“I’d like that.” After losing Kate, I could use some new friends. “Kate would have loved this, too. She always wanted to date a biker. I really miss her,” I blubbered, hating the tears that followed.

“Aw, babe.”

In a matter of seconds, four women surrounded me in their embrace. The concern I felt from them brought on a sob, and I let the grief I hadn’t confronted surface, mourning my best friend and the loss. I finally swiped the tears from my face and felt the ache recede a little, even if my chest still felt too tight.

“Thanks. I’m a mess,” I laughed.

“Then you fit right in,” Heather announced, returning to her seat with the others. “Tell us about Kate.”

No one had cared to ask about her since she died, and it felt like my duty to share about the unique, beautiful, crazy girl I had known since we were teenagers. Talking about her helped, and I knew as long as I kept her memory, she would never truly be gone.

The doors to the chapel opened four minutes later, and Mammoth was the first through the door. His gaze scanned the room and located me within a heartbeat, zeroed in as he strode forward with that powerful gait. I stood as he approached our table and lifted his hands, cupping my cheeks as his brows drew together in a deep frown. “Ro, baby, you okay?”

“I think so, but I could use some time alone with you.”

He nodded, dropping his head to place a soft kiss on my lips. “You’re exhausted. It’s been a long night, and you haven’t slept.”

“I am tired,” I admitted, fighting a yawn. “I want to know what you decided on.”

“I’ll explain on the way.”

He bent and scooped me into his arms, and I didn’t hesitate to rest my head on his shoulder. Safety and warmth enveloped me in a cloud of comfort. Mammoth’s leather and whiskey scent surrounded me. It felt like home.

THE SOFT TOUCH OF Acalloused finger trailed down the side of my face as I turned and snuggled into a solid wall of muscle that radiated heat. The warmth kept me pulled under in dreams I would never remember once the light of day forced me to wake up.

“Ro, baby.”

“Mmhmm.”

A deep chuckle rumbled through the chest beneath me. “We should talk, Gorgeous.”

I’d fallen asleep almost the second I reached Mammoth’s room, and he placed me on his bed. I didn’t mean to fall asleep, but my body won over. I had to drag my mind back to the present. I would have preferred to stay wrapped up in the big man’s arms and the peaceful slumber that didn’t carry sorrow, worry, or the recent past filled with loss.

He rolled us, and my back met the silky sheets as my biker settled between my thighs. His lips pressed feather-light kisses across my jaw, moving across my throat to that sensitive spot below my ear. I shivered.

“Are we talking?” I asked, blinking as his beard brushed my shoulder. “Or something a lot more fun?”

His lips twitched with amusement as he lifted his head, staring at me with an intensity that I didn’t expect. “We’re getting to that. Real soon, Ro.” He rested on his elbows above me. “But you need to know I’m leaving soon.”

“To go after Dag and Killer?”

“Yes.”

“And Tommy?”

“Xenon is working his magic. He’ll find all three of them.”

“You think he’ll know something soon,” I guessed.

“I do.” He held eye contact as he swallowed. “Kate deserves justice. I won’t rest until she’s got it.”

Sudden tears burned behind my eyelids. “Thank you.”
