Helkin receded as Waylen’s smile filled my vision. He slipped out of me and grunted as he reached for his dresser and pulled out a tiny black box. Flipping it open, he pulled out a stunning diamond ring.
“Marry me, Gorgeous. Now. This weekend. Be my valentine bride.”
Oh my God!
“Yes,” I shouted, laughing as he tugged me into his arms, claiming my mouth the same way that he had claimed my heart. “Yes. I’ll marry you.”
Chapter 15
“You’re supposed to be getting ready, Little Man.” I peeked at him across the room as I folded my tie. “You got that? Need help?”
He shook his head. I sensed something bothering him.
“Why don’t we talk about this?”
“You feel the sadness.”
“I do, Bud. Talk to me.”
He sighed. “You’re getting married on Valentine’s Day.”
“Yes.”
“So that means you have a forever valentine.”
“I guess it does,” I agreed. “Is that okay with you if it’s your mama?”
He nodded. “I’m just sad because I don’t have a valentine.”
Aw. I lifted my hand and tapped my heart. “You can have more than one. It’s allowed. That’s why I have both of you.”
“It is? You do?”
“Yep.”
“So, I do have a valentine.”
“You sure do. You have two because your mama and I both claimed you as our valentine. That’s double.”
His eyes widened. “Yes!”
I held out my pinky. “You remember what this means?”
He swallowed. “Yeah.”
“I pinky promise you that I’ll always be your valentine and so will your mama. We’ll always love you.”
He linked his pinky with mine. “Me too.”
“I love you for infinity, Jakey. You and your mama.”
“I love you for infinity, Daddy.”
I pulled him in for a hug and laughed when he squeezed extra tight. “We need to finish getting ready. Everyone is waiting.”
“This tie,” he grumbled.
“I’ll help.” I fixed his tie and mine, smoothing both of our black suit jackets. We decided we liked the suits more than tuxedos and had a reason to wear them again if we took Rowen somewhere fancy.
