Page 2 of Frank

For as long as I could remember, people avoided me.

It was because of my height.

I was the biggest brother in the club. I’m talking over six and a half feet tall and weighing close to three hundred pounds.

I wasn’t fat. In fact, I was quite muscular.

King insisted we worked out daily to stay fit.

I liked calisthenics.

My brothers, not so much. Exercise was a great way to keep the brain active and keep the neurons firing on all cylinders. Well, that’s what I told them, but they were usually too grumpy in the mornings to listen to me. But it didn’t matter. I could be as good looking as Scribe, funny like Gunner, or nice like Pyro, and still no one would give me a second glance.

I was just me.

Frankenstein or Frank to my brothers.

The big guy with too much knowledge and not one ounce of game.

Instead, I stuck to what I was good at and that was inventing new formulas to make the club money. Plus, King gave me my own lab and all the space I needed.

I really liked my lab.

Even with all that, I still wanted more.

I did have my eye on someone, but she never gave me the time of day. She was smart like me, too. She was always busy helping others, making sure that everyone she cared about was in perfect health. She was also the prettiest girl in the whole county. Even prettier than Henley, and that was saying something, ‘cause Henley was a doll.

Nope, the girl I had my eyes on was the cream of the crop.

Smart as a whip, sweet as pie, and she didn’t know I existed unless I hurt myself, and then I had her undivided attention.

Yep, you guessed it. I had eyes for Dr. Claudia James.

My dream girl.

She was also Enigma’s sister and that was the problem.

She was completely off-limits.

Bro-code and all that.

“Frank!”

Looking up, I smiled when Henley rushed over, giddy like a schoolgirl, before she wrapped her arms around my neck to whisper in my ear, “He proposed.”

Hugging her to me, I replied, “I knew he was the one for you. I’m happy for you.”

Releasing her, she hopped up on the stool next to me, and Enigma filled a glass of Sprite before placing it in front of her. “Congrats, gorgeous,” Enigma said, leaning over the bar and kissing her cheek. “Frank. I’m out of here. You guys need me. I’ll be at my sister’s.”

Nodding, I said nothing when he threw his towel down on the bar.

The second he was out of earshot, Henley asked, “Frank, will you be my best person?”

“Huh? Your what?”

“It’s like a maid of honor. I would ask Devlyn, but she’s too damn bossy and would pitch a fit if she didn’t get her way. Plus, she wants to throw me a big stripper party and I don’t want that, and she won’t be happy until she gets one. I want something simple, maybe a good movie or a nice meal at a restaurant. I don’t want anything out of this world, just simple and sweet. So, will you?”

“You want me to stand beside you when you marry Scribe?”
