“That nigga is feeling himself too much,” Mack announced.
“Wassup with you?”
“Fuck are you worried about me for when we got bigger problems?” Mack snapped.
“We need everybody’s head in the game to solve it, so where’s yours?” Tyson asked.
“I’m good.”
“Yeah, okay. You need to take your ass home and cool off. Ty and I can handle it for now,” I decided because it was too much going on to have to watch Mack, too.
“I don’t take orders from you,” Mack rebutted, heading for the door. Halfway there, he realized nobody followed. “Time is money, and we’re missing a lot of it. Let’s roll,” he demanded, pushing through the old metal door.
“That nigga is off his rocker,” Tyson announced the obvious.
This was unlike Mack. His temper didn’t rear its head often, so people often forgot how nasty that nigga could get when it did.
“I know.”
“What are you going to do?”
“What the fuck are you going to do?” I fired back.
“My solution only ends in more bullshit,” Tyson said before taking the same path Mack had traveled to the parking lot.
It was better to be safe than sorry, so I texted my dad and told him I needed everybody at my house in an hour. I climbed into the car with Mack, and the drive to my was quiet. I found myself laughing because I’m sure I was much worse at one point. Back then, having a baby with my one-night stand felt like hell on earth. It was a time I couldn’t see past the mess, but now that I was on the other side, I had advice to pass down to my brother.
“Everything is fixable,” I explained.
Mack mulled over my words but didn’t say anything. I wasn’t surprised because he wasn’t much of a talker, especially when he was pissed the fuck off. After a few miles, he finally let me in.
“I can’t be the only one trying to fix it,” Mack revealed.
“Sky just gets caught up in her own head. You know that better than anybody,” I repeated as a reminder.
“Nah,” Mack shook his head, gripping the steering wheel. “Not this time. Something is up. She’s fighting too hard to convince me it’s not.”
“Until she’s ready, all you can do is be there.”
“That’s not all I can do,” Mack refuted.
“I know Sky has you in your feelings, but let’s not get carried away. You love her. You love Cam even more. If you were ready to give all that up, you wouldn’t be walking around giving everybody your ass to kiss.”
“Fuck you.” He finally cracked a smile, even if it was faint and short-lived.
“Stop bitching and make shit right with your lady. Your attitude is getting on my fuckin’ nerves.”
“Payback for all the times you were in your feelings, and it’s been plenty,” Mack joked.
“I speak from what I know, and my shit is good. Can you say the same?”
“Keep running off at the mouth, and I’ll get the Boss on you,” Mack threatened, referring to Hailo.
“Shit, you ‘ought to be thanking me. I held her off earlier, but you know she’s going to get in your shit.”
“I know,” Mack agreed. “I deserve that, though.”
“I don’t know how you have so much patience for Lo Diddy but not Sky.”
