“I’m just checking.”

“I love you and really appreciate you.”

“I love you too, babe. I gotta go, and please text somebody.”

“I will.” I dragged before we both hung up the phone.

Pulling up to the address, Quest texted me this morning, ‘Meet me here at noon.’ I had an innate feeling brewing in the pit of my stomach. It was the same feeling I always got when I was about to see Quest—nervous yet excited and impatient all at once.

My car rolled up the unfinished driveway. When I parked, Quest walked out, and the second I looked up, I was no longer in control. My cheeks grew warm, admiring his smooth almond-brown skin and perfectly lined beard. Fine didn’t do Quest justice.

“Hey, you.”

“Sup Princess,” Quest smirked, planting a soft but sensual kiss on my nose before his lips met mine. “Come on, let me show you.”

He opened the door and gave me a tour of the beautiful home. Our home. It was easy to fall in love with it from the vaulted ceilings and tons of natural light for good selfies.Unlike most new construction homes, the floor plan wasn’t completely open, which I enjoyed.

“So, what do you think?”

“I like how it’s coming together,” I replied.

Despite picking out amenities from a catalog, it was my first time seeing them in person.

“Even those blue cabinets?” Quest asked, roping his arms around my waist with a smile.

“Especially the cabinets,” I giggled because he didn’t see the vision.

“Soon enough, we’ll be able to call this home.”

I stepped out of his arms, not because I didn’t feel the same. It was actually the opposite, and it made me emotional that he’d gone through all this trouble for me—most importantly, for us. The countertops hadn’t been installed yet, but I could see us in this kitchen and feeding our family here one day.

“What’s wrong, Solana?” Quest asked, his voice oozing with irritation.

“Nothing. I’m just,” I paused, looking for the right word, but there wasn’t one that could explain what I was feeling right now, so I settled on shocked. “You did all of this for us,” I finally turned to face him.

“I don’t know what kind of niggas you’re used to, but I don’t play games.”

“Noted, Mr. Cassidy.”

“So, do I have your stamp of approval or what?”

“What if I say no?”

“Then we tear the shit down and start over. Princess always gets her way. Can’t stop now.”

“It sounds good, but I know you’re fucking with me,” I rolled my eyes at his sarcastic rebuttal. “I can’t wait to see how the kitchen comes together.”

“I need you to order furniture. The contractor assured me they would be finished in the next twenty days, so I’m holding them to that.”

“Shopping, that’s right up my alley. I can see it now.”

“Oh yeah?” Quest chuckled at my excitement.

“Yes, a picture here, an area rug there, and hang the TV on that wall,” I pointed.

“So you’re moving in with me?”

“It’s my house. Why wouldn’t I?”
