Grabbing her suitcase, I rolled it outside to the car service waiting in the driveway. I offered to take her wherever she needed to go or make arrangements, but Adria declined. She claimed it was best if we didn’t know where she was headed. Whatever that meant, but I respected her wishes.
I shut the door and prepared to finish my conversation with Sky when my phone rang.
“What?” I asked, answering Tyson’s call.
“We need you at the farm now,” he demanded.
“I said I’ll be there when I’m done.”
Sky walked downstairs, snaking her arms around me, stealing my concentration.
“Now isn’t the time for a tantrum. We have Quest at the farm. Get here now.”
“For what?” The elevation in my tone made Sky look up.
“You’ll find out when you get here,” Tyson said, ending the conversation.
“I gotta go,” I announced, eager to discover what I missed.
“We have a conversation to finish,” Sky asserted.
“Later. Breakfast is on the counter. I’ll be back before pick up. I love you.” Kissing her lips, I dipped out the door.
The urgency in their cryptic message amplified with each mile. It was a beautiful day in DuPont Falls, with the sun reflecting off the skyscrapers that eventually dwindled into miles of grass. The houses became few in between, letting me know I was nearing my destination. The only reason I could think of Quest being at the farm was the casino hit. Either they had fucked it up or was in on the deal.
I pulled into the driveway and hopped out, using my key to let myself in.
“Who was supposed to go shopping? It’s nothing in here,” Gi fussed, closing the cabinet.
“That was on me. My bad,” I spoke up, pushing the door shut.
Gi froze for a minute, staring at me like he’d seen a ghost.
“You’re in a better mood today,” Gi pointed out as we slapped hands.
“No thanks to Lo with your nosey ass.”
“Why are you so happy?” Tyson asked.
“What happened?” I asked, refocusing the conversation.
Tyson and Gi shared an awkward exchange, and then Tyson explained, “Solana and Quest have been fuckin’ around.”
That was the last news I expected. Solana and Quest didn’t even sound right together. I shifted to Gi for confirmation, but he agreed, “Hell nah. Solana knows better.”
“Told you it was urgent,” Gi said on his way to the kitchen.
“I don’t know what that nigga is on, but for now, he’s downstairs until we figure it out.”
“Where is Solana?” I asked because it seemed like they were focused on the wrong shit. None of us had seen her.
“She’s fine,” Gianni spoke up.
“How do you know?”
“How do you think? I spoke to her.”
“So, this is the nigga she’s been losing her mind over?” The question was more rhetorical than anything. “Y’all should’ve let me kill both of them, and none of this would be happening.”
