“Another text. His location is still Pinebrook. The text read, ‘This is your final warning. I’m not playing around with you anymore. Drop the charges within twenty-four hours or else.’”

Fuck, fuck, fuck!

“She isn’t dropping the charges,” Kane ground out through his clenched jaw.

“Ian, are you able to pinpoint a radius where the text was sent from?” Luke asked.

“Not as closely as I’d like. The radius is about ten miles wide. I’ll send you a map of the area. Kane, were you able to find out what kind of car he drives?”

“Haylee said he drives a classic BMW, so there’s no electronic stuff in it for you to hack.”

“Shit. Okay. I checked for surveillance cameras around Pinebrook. It seems that your town is still behind the times because very few businesses have them, so I hacked the ones that there are and am monitoring those.”

Luke muttered something under his breath, and Kane knew that hearing Ian admit to hacking into the cameras was something that Luke himself wanted him to do, but as the sheriff, he was supposed to enforce the law, which Ian was not following. Kane also knew his friend wouldn’t say anything or put a stop to it because the reason that Ian was doing it was to save Haylee.

“Luke’s over here having a hernia because you’re talking about hacking, so I’ll let you go before he decides to send out a warrant for your arrest.”

Ian laughed. “Go ahead and try. I’ll just hack the system and remove my warrant.”

Luke looked up to the ceiling, barely keeping his composure while Damian laughed in the background.

“Thanks, Ian. Keep me posted.”

“Seriously, that guy is brave to say some shit like that where I can hear,” Luke said with exasperation.

Kane grinned. “He knows you wouldn’t do anything to him since he uses his smarts for good, and besides, he’s so loaded, he knows he could pay off whoever to get the charges dropped.”

Ian had created a computer security software patent with his best friend while they were in college that they sold for millions. Then he started his own tech company that put him at number one on the Information Technology Magazine’s list of most successful tech companies in the United States. One of Kane’s favorite things about the guy was that even though he was rich enough to buy an island, he was humble and would give the shirt off his back to help one of his friends or a Little in trouble.

“What do you think he meant by ‘last warning’?” Damian asked.

“I don’t know. But she isn’t dropping the charges. Not happening.”

Luke nodded. “I agree with you. He’ll do this to someone else if he doesn’t go to jail, and he belongs behind bars.”

“He can’t hide forever. Let’s just keep up what we’re doing and keep the girls guarded,” Damian said firmly.

Kane nodded. He would guard his girl with his life.

Haylee stepped off the bottom step with Virgil tucked under her arm, rubbing at her eyes with her fists. Her eyes went wide when she lowered her hands and saw all the men in the kitchen.

“It’s okay, sweet girl. Come here,” Kane encouraged.

She looked at him and relaxed slightly, making her way over to him. She hugged herself against his side, and he felt like a king. Damian and Luke grinned at him knowingly.

“I better get home to Ally. I hate leaving her with a guard,” Luke said.

Luke left, and Damian disappeared quickly, leaving Kane with his sleepy Little alligator.

“Is everything okay, Daddy?” she asked.

He hated that she knew something was off. He wished he could just take care of this without her knowing, but he wouldn’t lie to her.

“He sent another text. He’s still here. He said you need to drop the charges within twenty-four hours or else.”

Her eyes widened, and she began trembling. Kane picked her up and carried her up the stairs to her nursery, sitting in the rocking chair with her in his lap. He knew she felt safe in there, and he wanted to do whatever he could to help ease her worries.

“What is he going to do?” she asked quietly.
