“Always.”

Konrad pulled him close for a kiss. “I’ll walk you in, then I’ll go to the park.”

“I can—”

“I’m coming with you. I need a word with Roan anyway.”

Dahy nodded and slid out of the seat.

“I’m leaving it here.” Konrad gestured at the car. “Do you know how to drive?”

Dahy shook his head. “I normally avoid populated areas.”

Konrad stared at him. “Right. I’ll teach you.” He was quiet for a few seconds. “Do you want the keys in case you need to hide in there?”

“They’d find me. If I have to run out of the coffee shop to get to the car, they’d see me or scent me.” He pushed open the door to Mildred’s and inhaled. Coffee and sweet things. Myka waved at him from behind the counter, and he beamed at her. Then she gestured at a table in the corner where Jyran was sitting.

Dahy turned to Konrad. “Right, I’ll go.” He took a hurried step in Jyran’s direction only to be yanked back.

“Not so fast.” Konrad cupped his neck and kissed him right there in front of everyone. Staking a claim.

“Right.” Dahy’s whisper caressed his lips.

“Yeah. You’re mine.”

“I know.”

“You have your phone?”

Dahy patted the pocket of his ratty jeans. “Yup.”

“Call me when you’re done, and I’ll come pick you up.”

Dahy nodded, and Konrad gave him another quick kiss before letting him go.

Konrad moved to sit across from Roan who occupied a two-seat table right by the counter. “All good?”

Roan nodded. “Nothing suspicious.”

“The guy still at the hotel?”

“He didn’t leave while I was there. I told Sewell to contact you or me if he did.”

Konrad nodded. “How did he seem?” At Roan’s frown, he added. “Sewell, I mean.”

“Ah.”

When he didn’t say anything else, Konrad raised an eyebrow.

“I don’t like him.”

“Because?” Sewell could be a bit…hard to get used to.

“I’ve never liked him, but less now since he keeps referring to Myka as the human.”

Konrad recalled the discussion they’d had at the office the day after they’d realized Dahy was a squirrel. “Yeah, we might have a problem there.”
