Or, she tried to. Dante said nothing. He just gripped Sage’s arms tight and pulled her in for a passionate kiss that had Val’s face turning hot. She looked away and waited. And waited.
Finally, someone cleared their throat and Val looked over again.
“Sorry about that,” Sage whispered, still locked tightly in Dante’s arms.
“If it’s better, I could go home?—”
“No way. Not with the Krypt crew about to descend on all of us. You’re better off here. Come on in.”
Dante swatted Sage’s ass and muttered. “I’m going to bed. Hurry up.”
Sage kissed Dante one more time and motioned for him to start walking. The big, dark eyed biker walked off into the house, with Sage and Val following.
Thankfully, the room Val was led to was on the other side of the house. It was simple but clean, and included a massive king-sized bed in the middle. With a wrought iron frame, a red patchwork quilt, and a plethora of pillows, the bed was a welcome sight after the night Val had endured. She needed a hot shower and a warm bed. And then, tomorrow, to figure out what she was going to do. If the Krypt and the Hellraisers were now in a war, she was caught in the crossfire. Not to mention the threat from Holy Sacrifice. Someone had found her after all these years. Maybe she’d be better off running. And starting over again.
“Don’t make any big decisions just yet,” Sage stated, as if she’d read Val’s mind. “Get some rest and we’ll talk in the morning. There’s towels in the bathroom, and pjs and sweats in the closet. And a universal charger on the nightstand if you need it for your phone.”
“Thanks, Sage,” Val whispered and looked around, suddenly feeling like she did at eighteen. So alone. So lonely.
“It’s gonna be okay,” Sage reassured her with a gentle pat on the shoulder. “You’ll see. These boys protect their own.”
“But I’m not?—”
“Something tells me you are,” Sage replied as she walked over to the door. “Have a good night. See you tomorrow. Or, given the time, in a few hours. I always get up early to go check on my farm across the road so just a warning.”
“I’m up early, too. I’m tired but I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep.”
With a final nod, Sage left and closed the door.
Val pulled her cell phone out of her pocket and placed it on the charger on the nightstand, then headed for the bathroom. She stopped short when she caught her reflection in the mirror—her hair was a tangled mess, there were scratches on her arms and face, and her makeup was a streaky mess.
Ignoring all that, Val stripped down and stepped inside the glass enclosed shower, turning the water on as hot as it would go. The heat felt so good after being in the cold for hours. There were bottles of shampoo and conditioner, herbal stuff, and vanilla body wash.
Clean and feeling human again, she towelled off and dried her hair, then braided it.
By the time she finally slid under the sheets, it was nearing on 4 AM. Then she glanced over, at the leather jacket she’d been wearing. Jesse’s jacket. It smelled like musk, and something spicy. Something that had Val wanting to bury her face in it and take a long inhale. Silly. Then she remembered the way Xander had grabbed hold of her arm, to steady her walk. He smelled as good as Jesse, clean and spicy too. She wasn’t blind to how both men looked at her. But that was just crazy. This whole night, hell the past few days, had been like a fevered dream. Unusual, unimaginable. So outside of her routine of working, reading, and sleeping.
She closed her eyes and willed herself to calm. Between the soft mattress, and the fluffy pillows, it wasn’t long before sleep claimed her.
But her dreams were as hot as her earlier thoughts…
Val was trapped in that shed again, but this time, only with Xander and Jesse. Except, the place was nice, like Sage’s. Xander was lying in the bed next to her, facing her, and then Jesse slid up behind her. Both men touched her body and had her moaning so loud she didn’t recognize her own voice. Xander leaned forward, kissing her, his tongue snaking around hers, then tangling, deeper, until she moaned, reaching for more. Strong, callused hands slid down around her ass, while another set cupped her breasts, teasing her nipples. Xander slowly pulled back and then reached over her shoulder. Val turned her head to watch as he and Jesse kissed roughly, their tongues and lips eagerly exploring each other. “Oh God,” Val whispered, so turned on she was writhing in their arms…
Then she blinked and opened her eyes.
She was alone. It was all a hazy dream. A sensual one, but still, not real. Tell that to her body. Her heart was pounding furiously, and she was hot all over, her nipples hard, her pussy aching. She’d never wanted any man so fiercely before. And two of them? At the same time? Imagining them touching her, and each other, well, Val couldn’t explain it, but her body knew what it wanted.
This was crazy. Go back to sleep.
Sleep came in fitful starts, as Val tossed and turned. She glanced at her phone, and it was now 9 am. The house was quiet, but she wasn’t going back to sleep. Val rolled out of bed, searched the closet, found an old pair of jeans and a sweatshirt, and headed for the kitchen.
Sage and Dante’s bedroom door was still closed.
Walking as softly as she could, Val padded into the kitchen and found the coffee maker. Opening the cupboards, she found a mug, and coffee pods. She placed the mug on the machine, then popped in a pod. While the coffee was brewing, she searched the fridge for milk and eggs and butter. She hadn’t eaten since yesterday evening and barely any dinner at that. She was too nervous.
Like the spare bedroom, the kitchen was spotless, and well organized. A surprise to Val, considering who she was rooming with. Then again, Val noticed a picture of Dante in what looked to be a military uniform. He probably liked neatness and order. Or maybe it was Sage’s influence. She remembered Sam talking about Sage’s farm and how well-organized she was.
Pulling out a pan, Val set it to heat, added a pat of butter and then began to whisk eggs, adding salt and pepper and milk. A few minutes later, she had a large bowl of scrambled eggs ready.
