“I’ll move anywhere,” Kade agrees.
My heart swells. Holy shit, I love them.
“Did you get it?”
“She can’t stay?”
“Does she have to move back to Canada?”
“What’s it mean?”
“Laken, please tell us,” Jed begs, gripping my hand.
The front door opens and my surprise walks in. “Whose ass do I gotta kick to get a whiskey around here?”
“Dad!” I shout, getting up to greet him.
“Wyatt!” Everyone else greets him.
I hug my dad and feel so grateful he was able to make it here for this. “Thanks for coming.” Corbin’s brother Randy picked him up from the airport and brought him here, already in on the surprise.
“They panicking?” he whispers.
“Yep.” I laugh.
Everyone says a quick hello to my dad, but Kade and Jed are being uncharacteristically quiet. Oh, they think he’s here to take me home, and now the joke isn’t fun anymore. I nudge my dad, and he calls them out on it.
“Why you two being assholes?”
Kade looks between me and my dad, but Jed just stares at me, waiting for me to put him out of his misery.
“You two better buck up because as soon as I retire, I’m moving up here to eternally torment you for the rest of your lives.” He smirks at my boys.
I watch as that news settles in. Jed visibly sags with relief, and Kade swallows whatever emotions he’s feeling.
“You…you got it?” Kade asks.
I nod.
“For real?” Jed asks.
“I married Gar to get it.”
The whole room goes silent. Except Gar. He can’t hold in his laugh.
“I’m joking! I got it. For real. I’m staying!”
Rayne slides the signed and sealed and stamped forms, showing me, Laken Chance, as a permanent resident. “It’s legal. It’s over. It’s done. Laken is ours!”
Everyone speaks up at once, but I step away from my dad and straight into the arms of my two loves. “You can’t get rid of me that easily. I’m staying for good.”
Kade wraps his arms around me from behind, staying quieter than usual. Jed holds my cheeks in his palms, looking straight into my eyes.
“Fuck, I love you, Laken.” Jed kisses me tenderly.
“Love you, too.” I smile, trying not to cry.
“You piss me the fuck off, Bossy.” Kade steps around my side, leaning in to give me a kiss that is more gentle than I’ve ever received from him. “But I can’t wait to fight you forever. Love you.”
