“The roommate’s room. I was looking for spare change for the bus.”

Lucy shot Evan a significant look. This mysterious roommate could be behind all of this. It didn’t mean Bobby was squeaky clean, but at least it might be able to prove he hadn’t been the one on the plane to California. Of course, it didn’t explain why Richard’s passport had been used. No doubt the police were already on that angle, not to mention working on tracking down the owner of the building and interviewing other tenants.

“Were you with Bobby last weekend?”

She shook her head. “Nah, he was sick with food poisoning. I didn’t see him the whole weekend.”

“Have you ever seen him do any drugs?”

“Why, sugar? Are you looking for a hookup? I’ve got a friend that can get you some H.”

“I’ll keep that in mind. Did you and Bobby do heroin?” Please, no. Please, no.

“Nah, he just wanted to fuck.”

Double ick.“Do you know where Bobby is now?”

“Oh yeah. That son of a bitch went to Atlantic City with my sister, Bianca. I’m going to get back at him if it’s the last thing I do.”

Boom! Gotcha!

Evan sighed and closed his eyes.

“No further questions,” she said to Evan, and pushed away from the table.

“Wait.” Evan grabbed her arm.

“Don’t fucking manhandle me,” she said.

“Come upstairs.”

“Why, so we can argue and then fuck like demented bunnies?”

“Bunnies?” he said, in a deeply offended tone. “I would think wolves or at least wildcats.”

“Don’t make me laugh, Evan. I’ve had a shitty day.” She fought to keep a smile off her face.

“Would it be less shitty at home or with me?”

“I’m kind of pissed at you right now.” Lucy was aware they were drawing attention from the rest of the bar.

“What the hell did I do?”

“You believed a woman scorned because it fit what you wanted to believe about Bobby. That’s what I’m fighting against. Just because Sentinel and Warden screwed her doesn’t make her a credible witness.”

“I think she just blew them.”

“Gross.” She banged her head against his chest. “I’ve got to bleach my brain right now.”

“I’ve got some upstairs. Come on, you didn’t even drink your bourbon.”

He was right. It was going to be a shitty night one way or another. She might as well spend it with him.

“Fine, but I’m still pissed at you.”

“You’re allowed.” He grabbed her bourbon and followed her upstairs.

Lucy saw Cal shooting pool with Finn when they went upstairs to the VIP lounge. Two tough-looking women sat in a booth watching the men with bored expressions. They straightened up and smiled as Evan walked by, but he didn’t spare them a glance.
