Iron nodded, “I know, but the shuttle will only make it to within one hundred UMU’s of the rocks. We will need to walk the rest of the way if we want to use the shuttle to get back to the city.”

“Trak!” Cole cursed, slamming his hands on the table, and making the hologram flicker for a moment, “That is a long way to walk there and back.”

“Yes it is. However, I do not see any other option.”

Cane stared at the map for a long minute, pushing his mind to find any way of keeping Amy from going with them on this mission. Of keeping her safe. Yet his mind fell short of a way other than to keep her at his and Cole’s side at all times. Now that they found her, they would both die to protect her.

“Is it just the four of us going?”

“Yes. I believe that Amy will feel more comfortable in speaking if she is with males she knows. Bringing others with us might make her scared to tell us the truth. Lace will have his team on standby, ready to come to our location if we need assistance.”

He nodded. Cane trusted Lace. He had never met him before coming to live on the compound, but he knew that Lace had served with Iron in the military for a long time. From what little Lace and Iron said of that time, Lace had been part of a covert team of assassins that were tasked with hunting down and killing hard to reach targets that the larger force couldn’t get to. From some of the stories he heard from Iron, Lace was one of the best.

He also saw the male’s skill from the assassination operations they did in the city. There wasn’t a single target that Lace couldn’t get to if needed. Rich or poor, powerful, or protected, Lace found a way to get close enough to strike.

“What of the other humans Lace informed you of? Do we know anything about who or where they might be?”

Iron shook his head, “No. All we know is that the Korok’s are selling them as slaves. I have Sena watching the factory, and Roam keeping an eye on the Korok ship that landed there yesterday. They are quiet for now, hiding in the fortress behind their walls. As soon as we return from the sands, we will focus all our energy on the Korok and the missing humans.”

Chapter Eleven

Amy waited as Lace maneuvered the transport back into the air. He had dropped her off as close to the cave entrance as was possible with the tall trees and said he would wait for her in the clearing Iron had taken her to earlier.

The sleek black ship rose into the sky, creating a gentle breeze that swayed the tops of the trees.

Once it was out of sight, Amy turned to find Emi and Tope standing in between two thick trunks, watching her. The moment she saw them, all her confusion and fear came rushing back. She let the tears come this time, running over to the two massive beasts, and throwing her arms around Emi’s neck.

“Did they hurt you?” Tope growled anger radiating from his tense body.

Amy sniffed, wiping at her face, “No.”

“Hush,” Emi cooed, rubbing her face on Amy’s chest, “tell me what happened. Why are you so upset?”

Amy blinked back more tears, sitting down on a fallen tree a few feet away. She stared in the direction the transport had gone, trying to collect her thoughts.

“I don’t know what to do about all this, Emi,” She whispered, rubbing gently at the markings on her wrists.

“About the males that have claimed you?”

Amy nodded.

“Do you not desire their claim?”

“I do, it’s just…”

“Just what?”

“They want me to stay with them in the compound. You have no idea how weird it is to be so attracted to two men at the same time, and to have them tell you that they both want you. It’s not normal for humans. It happens, but not often. Not only that, but how do I tell them that I come with a family? Not just any family, but a family that consists of two huge Night Beasts and two liquid symbiotes that need me just as much as I need them? I have all these raging emotions inside me, and I don't have a clue where to begin in unravelling them.”

Wise, somber green eyes considered her for a moment before Emi asked, “What is it you fear most?”

Amy took a second to think about it.

“That all of this will come falling down around me.”

“What do you mean, Amy?”

She sighed, “I’m scared that if I tell them about you, they will try to hurt you. I’m scared that if I don’t tell them about you, that I will lose you… And I’m scared that if they do find out about you… that I will lose them.”
