Trusting that Cole’s ability to heal his wounds would work, he left the tent and searched for Amy.
Iron had started a fire in the center of their camp, but he didn’t see his mate.
“Iron,” He called as he approached, “Where is Amy?”
Iron met his gaze, then gestured with his head to the back of his tent.
Cane turned and stopped short when he saw his tiny mate standing in the dark, stroking the two massive night beasts that had helped them in the fight with such adoration.
Walking slowly towards her, he paused when two sets of glowing eyes rose to look at him.
Amy turned, giving him a sad smile.
“It’s okay, Cane. They won’t hurt you,” she held out her hand for him and waited.
Cane took a second to think about what he was about to do. These night beasts were even larger than the ones that had attacked, and with his body still weak from his wounds, they would kill him and Amy before he even drew his blade.
“Have no fear, Cane,” Another female voice, this one different spoke in his head, “we are no threat to you.”
He swallowed, taking one slow step in front of the other until he reached Amy.
He wrapped his arms around her waist in the hopes of pulling her away from them, but when he felt her soft sobs he froze.
“Amy?” He whispered, concern overshadowing all other emotions.
She whirled around and threw her arms around his neck, crying softly into his shirt.
“Please don’t hate me, Cane. I wouldn’t be able to take it if you hated me.”
“Shh,” He said, wrapping his arms around her and lifting her in his arms, “I do not hate you, my little Sila. I could never hate you. I just… I don’t understand.”
She pulled back, wiping at the tears on her face.
“It’s a long story.”
“We have all night. I don’t think I will be able to sleep after this.”
Nodding, she turned back to the bests, that regarded him with weary eyes.
“First, I want you to meet these two. This is Emi,” She said, running a loving hand over the smaller of the two beasts, “And this is Tope,” she said, doing the same thing with the larger beast.
Cane took a cautious step closer to them, never once letting go of Amy.
“We are not like the others, cyborg,” The female said in his head, “We would never hurt Amy’s mates.”
“How can you speak?” Cane asked, not sure which of the thousands of thoughts in his mind to start with.
“You have a part of Kisma on you. She allows up to speak, and for you to hear.”
He glanced down at the bracelet again. Shaking his head, he looked up to meet the piercing blue eyes of the other beast.
“I will not harm you now, male, but if you ever hurt Amy in any way, I will tear you apart while you sleep.”
Cane shuddered at the deadly threat in the male’s voice. He believed him.
Amy rolled her eyes, a small smile on her face.
“Stand down, Tope. You know Cane would never do that.”
