“The Zelosians are a culture that believe in not just slavery, but in using what they believe are inferior races for all kinds of things. If the humans are female, they will most likely be taken to the pleasure houses.”

“That’s if the chancellor doesn't take a liking to them. But that will never happen. We will find them and get them out before that happens.”

Amy swallowed, trying not to let the images of what might happen to them flood her mind.

“What about the Korok we brought back? Is he talking?”

Cole nodded, “Yes. Thanks to a bit of convincing from Tope, he began to tell us everything we wanted to know.”

“What have you learned from him?”

“Mostly about the weapon he used on us. About what his plans were for the compound, things like that.”

“What did he want to do?”

“They planned to use the weapons on us here. That is why they attacked before. They wanted to see how we respond to an attack on the grounds. Grom and his gang were to create a distraction for our warriors to have to deal with in the city, while the Korok and his soldiers attacked here.”

“Divide and conquer,” Amy mumbled.

“Yes,” Iron said, “But that plan will not unfold. They need the weapon to stand a chance against all of us. Without it, they will be slaughtered. Once we get the humans out, they will have no way to pay the Zelos for the part they need.”

“We should just wipe them all off the surface of this planet,” Cane growled, his body tensing.

“I agree. But they have the numbers to start a war. Even though we would win, too many innocent people stand between us and the fortress. They will use that against us. We cannot risk the people of this city getting caught in the middle. For now, we find the humans and get them out. Once we do that, we can look at the next step at dismantling their ranks.”

“So what do we do next?” Amy asked, looking between the twins.

“Once we get word from Lace and Sena, we will move in on the fortress. Until then, we wait.” Cane replied, lifting her hand to place a soft kiss to her fingers. Another pulse from her wrists made her frown. Once more, she reached for it, getting very worried about what was happening to her symbiotes, but only got a wave of warmth in reply.

She glanced over at Iron and Ice, to see if they were having the same problem, but they were talking quietly to each other. No sign that their symbiotes were in distress.

When cool water rained down on them, making Amy squeal with surprise, loud, rumbling laughter filled her head.

Tope and Emi had crept up on them, still dripping wet, and decided to shake themselves off right beside them.

Cole laughed, shooting to his feet, and charging at Tope. The cyborg tackled the beast, both rolling over the grass as Tope tried to bite at Cole’s head.

Warmth filled her heart at the sight. They had found a home. A place where they could be what they were meant to be. She would need to speak to Ice about what she could do to help around the compound, but for now, she was happy just laughing at the two of them, playing in the sun.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Cole hissed as Amy applied the healing gel to the long cut in his arm. The beast tried not to hurt him while they were playing, but there was no avoiding his long fangs.

“Serves you right,” Amy snapped, narrowing her eyes at him.

“It’s nothing. My nano healing will have it gone by the morning.”

“Men,” She mumbled as she placed the cap back over the lid. They had come back to their home to shower and get ready for a meal in the main eating hall. Iron wanted to formally introduce her to the rest of the people that lived in the house, and Cole could sense her nerves.

“Amy,” he said, taking the small bottle from her hands. He placed it on the counter in their bathroom and pulled her into his chest. Cane was in the shower already. Amy had insisted on the shower separately so that none of them got any ideas. She didn’t want to be late, even though they had told her that no one would mind.

He had other ideas, though.

“What if they don’t like me?” she asked, giving him a scared, wide-eyed look.

“They will all love you. Besides, I don’t care what they think of you. I love you, and so does Cane. That’s all that matters.”

She beamed up at him, “You do?”
