“Tell me,” He said, his voice thick with emotions, “Tell me everything you saw.”

“My bedroom is on the third floor, by the medical unit,” He began, his words tumbling out of him in a rapid rant, “I was supposed to be sleeping, but I… I get scared at night sometimes, so I sit and look out the window to make me feel better. I was watching all the warriors going in and out of the medical unit after the first explosion. It was strange, because all the warriors used the main entrance, but then I saw one warrior go in from the side - the side closest to my window. I kept watching, then saw him leave again a few minutes later with your mate in his arms. She was sleeping. He carried her out to a city skimmer that was parked in the shadows of the trees behind the medical unit. I watched it take off and leave. Then the second explosion happened.”

Cane trembled as he listened to the child speak. His body vibrated with an emotion he was almost afraid to admit. Hope.

Cole shot to his feet, moving to kneel beside the boy, “Which way did the city skimmer go?”

Worry filled the boy’s eyes before he glanced back at the two house mothers who stood silently behind him. They gave him a nod of encouragement before he turned back to Cane.

The boy raised a finger, pointing out. Cane followed where the child was showing them, only to have his eyes narrow when his gaze landed on the tall, imposing structure of the Korok fortress glowing at the top of the mountain on the other side of the city.

Reigning in his anger, Cane turned back to the boy.

“Thank you, young warrior.”

The boy smiled, giving him a shy look, “I’m no warrior.” He mumbled.

Cane pulled him closer, his fist still twisted in the boy’s shirt and said, “Yes you are. A brave warrior who will be getting my portion of dessert with every main meal for a month.”

The boy beamed up at Cane, melting his heart. He let him go, being ushered away by the house mothers, before Cane rose to his feet.

A still calm filled Cane’s mind as he stared out at the fortress. He could feel the worry coming from the symbiote on his skin, but he calmed it with his still, focused fury.

He and Cole would find their mate. They would get her out of there and bring her home. Then, they were going to kill every single Korok on the planet, as well as anyone involved with them.

Chapter Thirty

Amy paced her cell, trying to stay calm. The Korok still hadn’t brought Sam and Rachel back. Mika had gone quiet after Amy told her about the cyborgs, softly sobbing in her own cell.

What had they done to her to make her so scared?

Movement at the end of the hall made her pause and listen. The door at the end of the hall squeaked open before heavy footsteps approached.

Amy backed away from the cell doors, her heart pounding in her chest.

Four figures came into view in front of her. One of them was a tall, slightly older Korok male, with pale grey skin and solid black eyes. The other was a tall, translucent pink male, with a bald head and narrow slits for eyes.

The third male was a large bear of a man, with thick fur covering his face and head and a long, white fur coat draped over his shoulders.

It was the fourth male that caught her attention. He was a cyborg. Half of his face was made of the same silver metal Cane and Cole had, with one glowing yellow eye and one pale grey one. Both arms were metal as well, only they looked a little different to what she saw on the compound. Where the Iron males had sleek, streamlined metal that matched their body structure, this male’s enhancements looked like they were made from scrap metal.

They all stared at her as she assessed them, waiting until she took them all in.

“What do you want?” She finally asked, fear and nerves racing up her spine.

The Korok glared at her, the anger almost palpable.

“You are the one that took my son,” He barked, stepping closer to the bars. The cyborg shot out a hand and grabbed the male, pulling him back.

“Your son?”

“Yes,” He hissed, “From the desert settlement.”

Amy narrowed her eyes, “You mean the monster that cut up and ate another living being? That son?”

The Korok snarled, his fists clenched at his sides.

“Enough,” The cyborg's deep, cold voice said, “Leave.”
