Page 11 of Babe's Bounty
“Piston found me after several church members caught up to me and beat the shit out of me. The bishop shut down the church after the scandal. They were already struggling and losing members. The former members blame me for the church closing.”
“But they were okay with the asshole raping little girls?”
Sam shrugs. “I guess. All I know is I’m stuck inside here until the trial.”
“Why don’t you go stay with your sister?”
“I want to be here. I wouldn’t put it past the church to pull some trick to keep me from testifying. Besides, my aunt doesn’t have a lot of money. She’s struggling as it is.”
I want to say something encouraging, but I’m at a loss. If we were in San Diego, I’d feel confident in telling him that the club will take care of him. But I don’t know these guys and after what Babe said on the plane, I don’t trust them.
“Are they treating you okay here?” I finally ask.
He bobs his head. “Yeah, they’re good. I mean, I’m a prospect, so I get shit jobs. Mostly, I work the bar and keep the clubhouse clean. I also help the Kutte Bunnies with the meals.”
“What about the Old Ladies?” I ask. “I know the prospects at Babe’s club spend much of their time helping the Old Ladies with various tasks. They take them to appointments or run errands for them.”
Sam shakes his head. “These guys don’t have Old Ladies. At least none that I’ve met. All the guys live in the clubhouse and use the Kutte Bunnies for companionship.” He nods toward the space behind me.
I glance around the room as several women wander into the bar. They’re all scantily dressed. A few have on short skirts that leave no doubt they prefer going commando. Several are wearing just thongs and high heels. The rest have tank tops and shorts that reveal more than they cover. I feel like a nun who wandered into a strip club.
Two women join me at the bar and ask Sam for hard lemonade. The blonde has dark roots and more cosmetics on her face than I use in a year. She’s wearing a pair of daisy dukes with a tight tank top and cowboy boots. The other has on an aqua bra which is a see-through and matching thong. She’s pulled her long, dark black hair into a ponytail.
“Who are you?” The blonde asks me, looking me up and down. I can tell by her expression that I don’t impress her.
“Min.”
“As in Minnie Mouse?” The raven-haired woman says chortling.
“No,” I reply, turning back to Sam and ignoring the women.
“You’re an uppity bitch, aren’t you?” Blondie sneers. “Best watch the attitude. These guys like their women willing, sweet, and able.”
“Good thing I’m a bitch then,” I say with a smirk. “It should keep the guys from paying me any attention.”
“If you aren’t looking for biker dick, then what the fuck are you doing here?”
Already bored with the conversation, I shrug.
When I turn toward the sound of boots hitting the concrete floor, the blonde next to me squeals in delight.
“Babe! I didn’t know you were here. Haven’t seen you in too long, baby. How about we find ourselves a room?”
When I see her wrap herself around Babe, I stand and walk out the door. I find the bike that contains my bag and pull it out. Walking toward the gate, I pull out my phone to call for an Uber. I had reservations about staying in the clubhouse before we arrived, but after that display inside, I know I have to leave. Now.
I hear the clubhouse door open and before I hear him calling my name; I know it’s Babe. He catches me up just as I reach the gate.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m checking into a hotel,” I tell him, yanking my arm out of his grip without turning around.
“Okay, I’ll take you. We can find a hotel and we’ll stay there,” he says.
“No. We won’t. I wouldn’t want to pull you away from your little bunny.”
Babe grabs my arm again, but instead of pulling me around, he steps in front of me. Bending over, until he’s eye level, I can see the turmoil in his green eyes.
“She’s not my bunny. She means nothing to me. Lydia and I had some fun together the last time I was here, but I haven’t thought about her since I left. I didn’t even know she was still here. We don’t have to stay here, but I think we should stick together.”
