“You’re that reporter that interviewed Hayden a few weeks ago?” Maria asks.
“Yes,” I say with a small smile.
“How do you know them?”
How does she know that I know them?
“I met Natalia and the boys in college. We all just happened to grow closer. But your daughter invited me to the wedding which I was happy to attend.”
“Strange,” Maria says with furrowed eyebrows. She looks at her daughter and then back at me. “Well I hope you enjoy dinner.”
I smile and nod my head. Nicole smiles at me, a little too wide might I add, and then she sits with her parents.
“Jaclyn, here,” Natalia says, making me turn around to look at her sitting on the other side of the table. I walk towards her. She is sitting next to Lilah while Chris is sitting on the other side of her. “You look so beautiful,” Natalia compliments me before leaning closer. “Sorry, the only seat was the one next to Hayden,” Natalia whispers. I look behind her and see Hayden talking to Kayden who is sitting across from him.
“That’s fine.” I smile down at her but I’m really cursing her out.
I know what she’s doing.
She’s been talking to me about Hayden non-stop in the past two days. She told me that Alex and Carter told her that they caught us together in my room with only a towel. I explained to her that it was a misunderstanding and Hayden and I weren’t hooking up.
I’m not the type of person who helps someone else cheat.
I walk to the chair next to Hayden's. I place my purse around the chair and sit down next to him. “Hi, Kayden,” I say with a small smile.
“Hi. You look nice,” Kayden says with a smile that would probably make a girl’s underwear melt off her.
Kayden has always been attractive to me but Hayden is the one who stole my heart.
“Thank you. So do you. How are you liking Italy?”
“It’s nice. I’m loving the beach and getting a small break from the city.”
Everyone at the table gets into their own conversation. Alex and Carter are talking to Nicole’s parents. They are just talking about how Hayden and Nicole were as kids. Carter is barely talking, it’s mostly Alex who has a sweet smile on her face.
“Why are you avoiding me?” Hayden says in my ear, his lips bumping against my lobe.
Goosebumps break out on my skin but I try to ignore the way my stomach fills with butterflies.
“It's only been two days. How can I avoid you when I’ve barely had the chance to see you. You’ve also been in Lombardy.”
“Asking about me?” Hayden says and I can practically see the smirk on his face.
I turn my head to face him. “No.”
“Natalia said you have to do an interview with me for your work?”
“And?” I raise an eyebrow at him.
“Tomorrow on the beach.”
I chuckle lightly. “Not happening. Kayden and I are hanging out tomorrow on the beach. Sorry.” I say with a fake smile before looking away from him. But when I try to talk to Kayden again, I feel a warm hand on my thigh where the slit is. “Hayden, get your hand off my thigh. People will see,” I say, glaring at him from the corner of my eye.
I remove his hand but he just puts it back on. Before I can tell him again the lights in the restaurant dim.
“Shh, the show's about to start,” Hayden says in my ear.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a special performance tonight by Leo De Palma. He will be singing the Italian Version of “I Wanna Be Yours” for a special lady in the audience tonight. Enjoy.” The announcer says before leaving the stage.
