Page 42 of His Treasured Mate
Madelyn caught me off guard when she threw her arms around me and gave me the biggest hug ever.
Liam and Lily walked in right at that moment.
Lily
Chapter 11
I loved seeing Thomas and Madelyn together. MC had been my best friend since we were just kids and no one had been happier than I when she discovered my twin, of all people, was her one true mate. It hurt my heart that she and Thomas had struggled to reconnect. But now, seeing them like this without prompting or even an audience warmed my heart.
The only thing keeping me from whooping with joy was the fact that I knew without a doubt that my mate was stressed, miserable, and angry.
Those feelings were coursing inside me too, only I had no idea why.
I’d been on my way to find him when Liam and Chase arrived. Chase had been called away to help with his girls the second he set foot in the house, which had left me a rare few moments with my twin.
“What’s going on here?” Liam asked.
The two stepped apart and looked over at us.
“Thomas knows about Jack.”
I cringed but tried hard to school my features. I’d known about Jack’s involvement in their lives since the very beginning, but I knew Thomas had been kept in the dark.
Maddie, or MC, as I often referred to her, had insisted on it. She’d practically begged me not to tell him to allow them time to adjust and figure out what was best for them and for Oscar. It hadn’t been easy, but as time went by, I just didn’t know how to tell him.
I knew it would hurt him to find out. And this certainly explained the emotions I’d been feeling from him.
“You knew?” he demanded, staring right at me and no doubt feeling my guilt. “How long, Lily?”
Liam took a step in front of me. He’d always been just a little over-protective of me. I just chalked it up to being a twin thing, but then maybe it was more like a brother thing because Kyle and Chase would likely have done the same. My mate wasn’t just anyone, though. He was an Alpha, but I knew my twin wasn’t thinking about that just then.
Thomas growled.
“Calm down,” I told him, which was probably the wrong thing to say.
“How could you not tell me about this, Lily?”
I pushed Liam aside and went to my mate. I knew my touch would soothe his wolf and calm him down, even if he didn’t want to.
“It’s not her fault. I made her promise not to say anything. I wanted to tell you in my own time and after a while the years just sort of slipped away,” MC said, coming to my defense.
“Years? You’ve known since the very beginning, haven’t you?”
“Of course I have,” I confessed. “She’s my best friend. We tell each other everything. You know that.”
“But this? You knew I wouldn’t be okay with this.”
“Why do you think she begged me not to tell you?”
He didn’t just look hurt, but the punch of pain that shot through me had me stepping back and doubling over from the shock of it.
“Oh no, the baby. It’s too early.”
Thomas went from angry to terrified in about two-point-six seconds.
“Maddie, call the doctor. I knew I should have demanded a check the second we arrived.”
I stood up and smacked him.
