She laughed. “I don’t plank for nothing.”

Passion took me by the throat, and my body surged with it at the prospect of slipping inside Lucia in the water, the place I loved so much. I moved up to the floating jet ski and secured her back against it, my toes digging in the sandy floor. Once she was supported and we were somewhat steady, I gripped her wet hair with one fist, pulling back so her mouth lifted to me. And when she cried out, I crashed my mouth onto hers, ramming my tongue into her with the same fervor that I wanted to bury myself inside her.

Lucia lifted her hips, gyrating her center against me. She pulled back, breaking the kiss, and I stared at her, drunk with wanting her, reeling from the desertion of her kiss. And before I could say a single word, she guided me inside her.

I groaned, my head lolling back. Her velvety flesh sucked me in, taking me until there was nowhere else to go. I thought I would pass out with the sheer pleasure, the absolute satisfaction that came with feeling her hold me tight. My heart rammed in my chest, and the sensations of an orgasm came almost instantly. I held her still, counting slowly in my mind. One. Two. Three. If I looked at her, I’d come undone.

She whimpered, her legs contracting around me. Inch by inch, I pulled out of her and then pushed back in again. It was an act of God to remain stable as I moved inside her without letting go. “Luci—”

She pressed her fingers against my mouth, silencing me. Our gazes met, and I knew then words weren’t necessary. Our bodies spoke, communicating this joining to each other. This was official to me. Lucia and I were official, and it was the purest thing I’d done in a very long time.

We writhed against each other, the jet ski moving viciously with us. Every pulse, every sensation. I knew how fast, how hard. I could sense her satisfaction, and soon we’d found a steady pace, writhing and gyrating until she came apart in my arms in a cry that pushed me over the edge. I came hard. Floating and freefalling at once through the thick saccharine air. And then we were silent, breathing heavy and sated beyond measure.

Just then, a dolphin jumped up from the sea, spraying salty water over us. Another followed suit. We laughed in unison.

“Do you think they are judging us?” Lucia bit my chest.

I winced, grabbing all her hair into my fist and pulling her head back so I could see her beautiful face. “Let them.” I kissed her, soft and gentle, savoring her like the delicacy she was. I wanted to savor her forever. And I’d meant it with everything I had.

Lucia

On the drive back to The Ritz-Carlton, I remained silent. I was still buzzing with all the things we did, all the words we said to each other. We drove up the short road, passing the golf course, toward the hotel entrance. I faced him finally, but his attention persisted on the road with just a hint of a smile on his lips as if he were reliving our time together on a loop.

“Today was amazing. I don’t know how to thank you for what you did for me.” It was the most perfect day—date. No man had ever treated me this special. Funny how the man to do that was Hansen—the last person I’d ever expected to be this romantic. “It was wonderful.”

“No, you were.” He stopped just before a pair of iguanas slowly moved across the road. They’d always jumped out when least expected at the resort. “Fucking iguanas.”

I laughed “Can’t they see you’re trying to pass? Selfish assholes.”

He grunted. “Exactly.”

When the road was clear again, he stepped on the gas pedal to accelerate toward the main hotel driveway to valet. Conference attendees were out and about again. I’d noticed from the nametags around their necks. The last workshops had just ended. Cocktail hour had started yet again.

Just as he slowed to a halt, I pressed my hand on his shoulder. “I think we should still discuss…us…before we…” Come out as a couple? The words sounded so weird in my mind. But that’s what we were doing—becoming a couple. Right?

His eyes shifted to meet mine. “Okay… I guess I can go with that. But you should know I want this. I’ll do anything you want to have something real with you.”

The uncertainty cleared, but a knot of tension stayed behind. I wasn’t used to this—a relationship in earnest. There was still a lot to discuss—maybe I was the only one who had to plan, as if I could control the outcome. I was scared. That was the truth I couldn’t deny.

Luckily, the waiting car in front of ours gave us the reprieve to take a breath. Though Hansen and I knew each other well, it was as if we were just meeting for the first time. He wasn’t Hans the Conqueror anymore and I wasn’t Lucia the Man Eater.

I dropped my hand from his arm, and in a split second, I stretched over the center console and put my lips on his. We kissed with the uncertainty of a first kiss. I wanted to keep kissing until he was devouring me like I’d gotten used to.

The honk behind us broke us apart. We stared wide-eyed at each other. My heart pounded. I said, “I guess we’re holding up the line.”

“I don’t give a shit. Come here.”

I trembled at his words, his sexiness, shifting my gaze through the windshield. There in broad daylight, I made eye contact with Calista Everette. My breath halted in my throat. Oh no.

We were caught.

“Crap,” I said, my throat dried out.

“What’s wrong?” Hansen’s voice vibrated through me. “Oh…”

Calista stood in front of the Range Rover, shock on her face at first. She held her baby high on her left hip while her assistant pointed at an iPad held in front of Calista’s face. But her attention was on us, not the iPad.

Calista’s red lips parted, and her eyes couldn’t have been any bigger if she tried. But her assistant pulled her away from the pavement, and they walked away while Calista dipped down to nuzzle her baby’s pink forehead.
