“Because I’ve been in your shoes before. And I’d wished then someone would help me.” I stroked her face. “And plus, if you’re going to compete with me, I need you to have a better software than mine.”

She smiled, her head lolling to the side with the sentiment. Thank God. She’d smiled. That’s all I wanted.

Two hours later, we were knee deep in lines of code. Lucia messaged her team on progress every fifteen minutes. Her lead developer Ryan announced he thought he was on the verge of fixing the issue again, which brought some relief to Lucia, though I could see she was weary of a fix that may not work in the morning.

She was beautiful when she worked. It turned me on not only physically, but also intellectually. The woman was a genius in programming languages. All of them. She was in her element, and it made her glow. Her eyes were bright with passion. And I was intoxicated with her. For the first time, I could actually see my future children when I looked at her. We’d have gorgeous tech nerds.

“You’re so pretty,” I said, pulling her on my lap. We were on the bed, sitting with our backs against the headboard. “I can’t stop looking at your face.”

“Stop,” she said, her smile broadening. “We’re in the middle of something serious.”

I lifted my eyebrows. “I know.”

My mouth hovered over hers for a moment before our lips met in a passionate kiss. She parted her lips, inviting my tongue to explore hers, to dance with hers. I moaned with awakened passion, not that it took much to get me going when I was with her. I imagined our kisses years from now would be just as exciting as the ones now. We would always kiss like this.

She pulled back. “God, Hans, you can kiss. I would have never told you that, because you don’t need to be more cocky than you already are.”

“You think I’m cocky?” I growled, taking her hand to my erection. “I’ll show you exactly how cocky I can be.”

With the passion sparking off us, we were fast and furious. Soon after, Lucia and I lay partially clothed and tangled in each other. I’d never felt this…calm with someone, yet excited. Imagine, this would not have happened had Lucia and I not had the room mishap. Now, I simply couldn’t envision Lucia not in my life.

I was in love with her.

I paused at the raw truth. I loved her, and I could see my entire future when I looked at her. House, kids, marriage…the whole thing.

“I know this is fucking crazy to say, but I want you to move in with me.” I couldn’t believe I’d said the words. Even if they came out in jest, the truth behind it was strong. I didn’t want to wake up one morning without her by my side. I was all in. I hadn’t been all in like this since Anais.

She looked at me, her eyes wide with shock. Her lips parted. “Umm, what?”

I laughed. Yeah, I was being absolutely nuts. “I want to be with you and only you. Fuck, this is weird. But it’s true. I literally see myself having a ton of kids with you. Is that crazy?”

“It’s insane.” She averted her gaze.

“Why?” A panic rose in me that I couldn’t manage. I needed to stop. This was too much, and I didn’t blame her for having reservations. I would, too, if I was my old self. But I had to know we were still on the same page; on the path that led to living together and eventually, kids. “Am I moving too fast?”

She sat up and lifted the sheet to cover her breasts. “You just asked me to move in and have a ton of your spawn. Yes, it is too fast.”

I sat up too. “Don’t you want kids?”

Then she stood off the bed. “Hansen, I don’t want to talk about this. I’m in the middle of a crisis. And you have to stop distracting me with sex.”

Okay, I could see her point. This wasn’t the time, but my heart was so full and I literally couldn’t control myself. Some need inside demanded I tell her exactly how I felt. Just then, my phone rang, taking my attention. The digital clock read fifteen minutes until eight in the evening.

“You should check that.” Lucia walked to the balcony doors and pulled them open, the sheet now wrapped around her lithe form.

Sigh. I hated that our conversation was interrupted. We needed to sort this out, but work had to take priority this time. I walked to the coffee table where my phone had vibrated nearly off the edge. The notification screen reminded me that I had a meeting with Brett Doran.

Shit. After everything, I’d also forgotten about the meeting with Mr. Thunder. The week suddenly felt long. As much as I wanted to continue to help Lucia, I knew that I shouldn’t ignore all my responsibilities that day.

“It’s my meeting with Brett.” I glanced up. “Your thunder from down under.”

She looked back, a smirk on her face. “Poor guy. He has no idea what he’s in for.”

I walked to her and pulled her into me. “You’re not allowed to talk to him anymore.”

She laughed. “I’m going to be his mentor if you keep it up.”

I kissed her. Fine, she could be his mentor, but she was going to be mine. And everyone would know it sooner rather than later.
