CHAPTER ONE

BELLA

I don’t envision that anyone likes their job, but there may be some that will tolerate it. I feel like I am neither. I work purely because I have to. There is a slither of people that work because they love it, because they truly love what they do. But it’s rare.

I work for Satan herself.

It’s not just me that holds a grudge against her, everyone in the office hates her.

Even her husband dislikes her, but yet he still comes in every lunchtime to see her.

Not that she is deserving, but someone has to do it.

I’ve worked for Burnes & Co since I graduated Oxford. Straight out of university with top marks and well on my way to becoming an editor.

But Clarissa put a stop to that when she made me her dogs body. Doing every little errand that arises. She gets paid the big bucks when in fact, I do all her work for her. She just sits there looking pretty and barking her commands.

Sighing, I walk into the office with coffees in hand. Flat white for me, black americano for her.

Oh, and I mustn’t forget her seeded bagel.

Security lets me through and I give them a wave as I pass and walk for the elevator.

I work in the same building as Taylor, just a few floors down, but she has been pretty occupied since she and the Russell Twins went public. Six months they kept it quiet from everyone except us. But she’s happy, and that’s all that matters, right?

Stepping into the lift, I press the button for my floor and pray that no one joins on the ride up with me, but my prayers weren’t answered today, because as soon as the doors begun to close, a perfectly polished brogue slips between them.

Slowly, I drag my eyes up his grey suit, and his gaze meets mine.

Henry Burnes. CEO of Burnes & Co.

He doesn’t work here unfortunately, he works across the street so I am only blessed with his handsome face once a day. Though today, he is early.

Deep brown eyes, golden skin and thick, brown hair with hints of silver grazing down the side.

“Hello Bella,” his deep tone has my skin erupting in goosebumps.

“Henry,” I twist my lips and face forward as he steps in beside me and I stiffen, standing a little taller.

I’m wearing a black mini skirt, sheer black tights, a white fitted blouse and Louboutin’s. My brown hair is straight and sits by my waist.

“I see you have her order.”

“Always. Same every morning.” I turn to look at him, chin lifting.

He is tall. Six foot seven maybe… compared to me, he is a giant. I’m five foot four.

“Black americano,” his voice is like silk wrapping around me.

“Seeded bagel,” I quip just as the doors ping open.

“After you,” he holds his hand out and I give him a soft nod as I move forward and turn left to take me to her office.

“Finally,” she rolls her eyes at me as I step over the threshold of where she is sitting.

Bobbed short hair. Red lips. Red nails. She is pretty, beautiful in fact.

But there is something inside of her that made her a bitch.
