“Morning,” I smile, placing her coffee and her bagel on the desk. Kill them with kindness. That’s what my mum always said.

“Where are the reports that were meant to be on my desk this morning?”

“Well, if I didn’t have to get your coffee, they would be there… but, if you give me one moment, I’ll grab them for you,” I twist, turning my back to her and strut out of the office just as Henry walks in.

“What do I owe the pleasure?” her tone is short and snappy; poor Henry. He is such a gentleman.

“Am I not allowed to come and see my wife?” I hear the playfulness in his voice, and it hurts my heart.

“You see me most nights Henry,” she is direct, cutthroat and I keep my head held high as I walk in and place the folder on her desk, Henry smiling at me. “Or is it someone else you have come to see?”

I freeze on the spot, my eyes bouncing between Clarissa and her husband.

“What?!” He bellows, and I see the crimson creep onto his cheeks at her accusations.

“I’m going to…” I trail off, my voice quiet as I begin to walk towards the door.

“Her; do you come to see her?” and my back is up.

“I have a name,” I turn to face her, brows furrowing. “Don’t get me involved in whatever marital shit you have going on.” My tone is curt. “I’m here to do my job, not to have a love life. Because let’s be honest, with the way you run me ragged, who has time for anything else?!” I scoff, shaking my head from side to side and storming out of the office in a rage.
