The scenery here is amazing, and I think, maybe after this war is said and done, we may need to move.
“I'm okay, Levi. I'm going to meet with Kian and Patience. They are still at the cabin.”
“I know. Just watch your back, and don't go silent on us. Answer our texts and calls.”
Sighing, I shift in the seat and yawn. “Yeah, I've only stopped to piss and fill up the tank. I'll reach Texas late tonight.”
We end the call, and I blast the radio until I can't stop blinking and I need to pull over for a few minutes.
I pick the next rest stop and pull into the parking area. My phone has been buzzing for a few hours, but I needed to concentrate on the road.
Pulling it out of the cup holder, I click on Chastity's message first.
It's a photo of her nursing Charity while Eli sits on her other thigh as she reads him a book.
It brings a smile to my face, and reminds me of why I'm driving two thousand miles.
I just hope this works.
KIAN
The Dragon: One of my guys is headed your way. Keep him safe.
Tossing my phone on the coffee table, Patience looks up at me from her book and scrunches her nose.
“You okay, Ki?”
Sighing, I nod and scratch my chin. I need to shave, but Pay doesn't seem to mind the burn I leave between her thighs after eating her like she's my last meal on Earth.
Licking my lips, she squirms on the couch across from me, then pouts her perfect pink lips.
“Behave,” she mouths and I scoff, crossing my arms.
“You weren't saying that an hour ago when I had you nailed to Nate's chest as he held you so I could rail you.”
Someone clears their throat and Patience’s eyes widen.
“Dad, he was kidding,” Pay stammers and I laugh, sitting back in the chair and grabbing my drink from the side table.
The ice clinks in the glass as the amber liquid swirls around the cubes.
“PJ, I know you're not the same little girl I had to leave behind, but if you could refrain from any PDA or comments, your old man would appreciate it. We have enough going on, I don't need to have a heart attack.”
Cal and Rooke enter the small den area, and they seem happy. Cal still won't acknowledge his mother being here, but he's enjoying getting to know his new siblings.
“What's up?” Nate asks. He carries in a plate of nachos and sets them on the coffee table, shoving my phone to the side.
“The Society has someone coming. They should be here soon,” I grunt, then spring at my baby girl as she stands from the couch and walks over to sit on my lap.
“Can we trust this Dragon?” Pay asks, looking at her dad.
“Yes, he's one of the good ones, PJ. His grandfather helped me go into hiding. Kept us safe as we bided our time. I'm sorry it took so long for us to return.”
Patience waves her hand and accepts a plate of nachos. She's been craving taco meat and cream cheese lately. I thought it was a weird combination, but surprisingly, it's good.
“We are going to need to make a supply run tomorrow. Nixen has his guys all over the place looking for Pay, but I think Rooke and this new person could do it,” I mutter, thinking out loud.
“Tae and your mom are headed here in the morning. I'll have them make a stop at Walmart,” Phillipe says, pulling his phone out of his pocket to send a text.
