Coco hesitated as she raised her gaze, finding him waiting, and smiled. He got off the motorcycle.

She hurried over with Tyr, holding out his arms. He took his son from her and looked him over. Tyr seemed no worse for wear.

He looked at Coco. "Everything go okay?"

"Surprisingly, yes." She put the diaper bag in her other hand and leaned forward for a kiss—which he gave her. "No question about who I was or what I was doing with Tyr when I checked him in. I'm sure it's because of the paper in the file giving me permission to see over his medical care that you filled out. I also wrote everything down—his height, weight, and the words we should work on with him. He needs to come back when he's eighteen months."

"More shots?"

"Yep."

He rubbed Tyr's upper leg, knowing he received immunizations today. "Did he cry?"

"Whined." She stuck out her bottom lip. "Then, he pulled himself together and tried to get off the examination table. He's a tough boy."

His chest expanded. That was his son.

"There's a drive-up joint down the road that sells ice cream. Will you take him and meet me there? They have tables we can sit at?"

Her brows rose, and she tilted her head. "Absolutely."

He handed Tyr back to her and walked with them to the car, helping her while she buckled his son in the car seat. He'd forced Coco to pack his kid around for too long, but he couldn't see buying a car when there was a chance that he was leaving for Norway.

Fifteen minutes later, he had Tyr on his lap, letting him lick the ice cream, and Coco beside him, doing something erotic with her tongue as she indulged in the treat. Occasionally, he got a taste when he needed to clean the drips rolling down the cone.

"It's almost dinner time. We're spoiling all our appetites." Coco wiped her mouth off with a napkin.

"He deserves the treat after the appointment, and you get a free ice cream cone for going solo." He watched her tongue come out and clean off the corner of her mouth. "I appreciate you covering for me. The meeting went longer than I'd planned for."

She reached over and squeezed his thigh, leaving her hand on him. "I've told you, it's not a problem. I'm happy to help out. Besides, I like hearing how much he's grown and how well he's doing. He's such a cutie. The nurse absolutely gushes over him and all his blond hair."

He looked at his son and chuckled. Tyr had hair, but it all seemed to stick straight up.

Time was going too fast. The last year a blur, all the small achievements Tyr made seemed to be exciting one day and gone the next. Already, he was used to his son walking. Soon, he'd be saying more words and talking.

He'd be asking questions.

He'd want to know why he didn't have a mother like the other kids and why the woman living with his dad was called Coco.

Holding the ice cream away from Tyr to see if he'd had enough, he said, "I wanted to talk to you about our plan to go to the beach for the day."

"Next weekend." Coco smiled. "I'm so excited. I checked the forecast, and so far, it's supposed to be nice."

"About that...," he muttered, putting Tyr down and keeping him trapped between his legs so he couldn't run away from him. "We need to cancel. Slag needs me that weekend. We're not going to be able to go."

"Oh." She looked down at the empty cone in her hand. "Okay, well, we'll make plans for another day."

He tossed the rest of the ice cream cone away from him and watched it disappear into the trash can nearby. With both his hands free, he let Tyr have his freedom to play underneath the table.

"We can still plan another time, right? Maybe the Sunday after?" she asked.

Until the money and contents were gathered to fulfill the shipment to Norway, he couldn't plan anything. Slag came first. It was the way he kept a roof over their heads and took care of his family.

Family.

He looked at Coco. He'd been including her long before they shared their feelings toward each other and started sleeping together.

"We'll see," he said.

She got up and turned around, walking to the garbage. He took in the slope of her shoulders and frowned. She'd never admit it to him, but she was disappointed.

Tyr babbled making truck sounds.

Coco turned around, plastered a smile on her face and held her hands down. His son walked over to her. She picked him up, and his head went to her shoulder.

Her eyes closed an extra beat as she snuggled him. Then, she looked at him. "We should probably go home, so I can change for work and see if he'll eat something healthy before we take him to the clubhouse."

He stood and walked them to her car. Coco kept up a steady stream of conversation with Tyr.

He should probably try and explain the reasons why he canceled their day away. Their date. But, with everything going on with the club and Kelli showing up, he had no idea if he'd have another date with Coco, much less be in the states.
