Page 61 of Peer & Coco
Chapter 24
Peer blinked awake. Coco waited, impatiently, for him to acknowledge her.
She'd been up for three hours with Tyr, called Lizzy and Roar, and packed a diaper bag—all while waiting for Peer to wake up from his drunken state.
Peer lifted his head, groaned, and let it fall back on the pillow. "Where's Tyr?"
"Roar and Lizzy picked him up and took him to the clubhouse. I thought it would be best if he wasn't here when you woke up." Sitting cross-legged on the bed, she glared down at him. "It's almost one o'clock in the afternoon."
"Damn." He rubbed his hands over his face.
Her patience gone, she picked up her pillow and hit him in the head with it.
"Hey." He tossed the pillow to the side. "What was that for?"
"You're an idiot." She climbed off the bed.
"What did I do?"
"You're leaving." She opened the top drawer of the dresser and flung all the boxers at him. "You might as well pack now. Why wait?"
"Hold on..." He sat and swung his legs off the bed. Grunting, he stood, swaying before he caught his balance. "Why are you pissed? Why'd you send my son with Roar and Lizzy?"
She turned away from him. His naked body, in any state, always made her forget the moment. Today was too important for her to get swayed toward him because his dick was swinging.
"I heard it all last night. You're going to Norway. You're taking Tyr." She stumbled over his boots on the floor and kicked them in her frustration. "You're doing that all today, so pack your stuff, and then you can go get Tyr. Take my car. I don't care."
"You don't care?"
"Of course, I care," she exploded. "I'm sick to my stomach. I'm breaking in two." She muffled her scream. "I can't believe you would leave when you said you loved me, and I'm pissed. God, I am so mad at you."
"Coco," he muttered, stepping toward her.
She backed away, holding up her hands. "I hate you. I really, really do."
"Don't." He flinched. "Let's talk—"
"Talk? It's a little late for that." She picked up her shoes and slipped them on her feet. "Just tell me one thing. Did you or didn't you plan on going to Norway to keep Kelli out of Tyr's life?"
The lines on his face deepened. His anguished gaze pleaded silently with her. Never having known Peer not to talk through his thoughts, the truth was written all over his naked body.
"Promise me one thing." She grabbed her phone and car keys off the top of the dresser.
"Anything," he said.
She picked up a bag and slung it over her shoulder. "Let me see Tyr, alone, to say goodbye before you leave the country. Give me that."
His gaze intensified before he turned his head to the side. The cords at the side of his neck convulsed before he turned back and faced her.
"I will," he said softly.
She nodded, knowing if she spoke, she'd break down and beg him to stay. Turning, she walked to the door of the bedroom.
"Where...where are you going?" he asked behind her.
"Roar and Lizzy always said I could come back and live with them if the situation ever changed. I'm taking them up on their offer. My car will be in their driveway. Take it." She walked out of the room.
There was nothing more to say or do. He'd made plans without her, that never included her.
