Suddenly, worry overtook her features. “Where am I going?”
“Question is…where are we going?” I countered.
She still looked confused but a little less worried. “Okay, where are we going?”
Standing up from the table, I kissed the top of her head. “It’s a surprise.”
A loud sigh erupted from her. “You know I hate surprises.”
“You seemed to like the last one.”
“How am I supposed to know what to pack if I don’t know where we are going?”
I shrugged. “I could pack for you if you like.”
Shaking her head, she replied, “If I let you pack for me, I’d show up with an empty bag and have to walk around naked the whole time.”
Grabbing her arm, I pulled her close. “Believe me, Kansas, you won’t be wearing many clothes no matter what you pack.”
Her eyes flickered with heat as she gazed up at me, but I was going to make her wait a little longer, so I gave her a quick kiss and let her go.
“But pack a swimsuit just in case,” I said winking and walking away.
The next morning, we had arrived at the airport and got settled on my family’s private jet. Sam was kicking and screaming practically the whole time about how much money something like this would cost and how frivolous it was.
When she got to bring Mason along on our trip though, she seemed to settle down.
I still hadn’t told her where we were going, but she was trying her hardest to just go with the flow and not ask too many questions. It was killing her, but I appreciated the effort.
“So, how did you get your mom to let us use the family’s jet? I can’t see her being very happy that a little leech like me is riding around in this much style,” she said while getting up and wandering the plane.
“She doesn’t know.”
“So, we stole your family’s jet without them knowing?” Her eyes were as big as saucers.
“Calm down. I asked my dad, and he was fine with it. He and mom weren’t going to use it, so he saw no need in telling her or asking for any type of permission.”
“Yeah, that’s really going to make her like me more,” she said, while rolling her eyes.
I pulled her onto my lap. “When are you going to realize that I don’t care if she likes you or not? I am not letting you go.”
“And if she takes away your trust fund, and you don’t get to do cool things anymore like ride around in private jets?”
I kissed her. “Then, I guess we better enjoy it while we can.”
The rest of the plane ride went quickly once Sam and I settled on a movie to watch and lounged in our comfortable seats.
Once we landed, I told her that we were in a small private island in the Caribbean.
“You rented us an island?” She gasped.
“No, nothing that extravagant. There are a few properties here that people own and rent out. We won’t be the only ones on the island, but everyone’s so spread out that chances are, we won’t see anyone else.”
We took a short car ride to our own little paradise…a cute little bungalow that sat right on the beach. Her eyes lit up the second we walked inside. The small house was so bright and airy with all of its white furniture and linens. Large floor to ceiling windows lined the public areas so you could look out over the ocean all day.
“Ty, it’s beautiful. But I don’t get it. What’s the occasion?”
I wrapped my arms around her waist. “Why do I have to have an occasion? Why can’t I just want to take my girl to get away for a few days?”
