“Yes.”

She stretched and looked out to the street that used to lead her home. Seth parked close to her apartment and Blake helped her out of the truck.

Turning to Seth, she said, “Good luck with that meeting.”

“As long as your mate’s wolf doesn’t start barking, we’ll be fine.”

She giggled and waved at Seth before taking Blake’s hand in hers. She was nervous as they walked up the stairs to her old door.

With a shaking hand, she knocked on the door, her heart racing. He heard Jason come closer and unlock the door, his heart beating just as fast as Niev’s. With a smile, he greeted her and pulled her into a hug. Relief that wasn’t Blake’s flooded his mind as she embraced her old friend. The last few months her life had been turned upside down and being back gave her a cozy feeling.

Jason let go of Niev and gave Blake a disapproving look. “So, you need a babysitter now? I can’t spend alone time with you anymore?”

“I’m just here to drop her off. You took care of her the last few years so I’m sure you can do the same for the next few hours.” He turned to Niev and kissed her forehead. “Have fun. I’ll see you in a little bit.”

Reuniting

As she stepped inside, Niev felt as if she was returning home. For a brief second, she felt as if she’d just arrived in Clemont and was searching for a new room to live in. Jason hadn’t changed in the past few months. He looked the same, though he seemed to have had a good night’s rest.

“So, did you find someone else to live with you?”

Jason closed the door behind her and followed her to the couch. “No. I didn’t like any of the ones that came by. Now your old room is just my gym.”

“I thought you would’ve made it into a toy room,” she giggled, trying to break the ice.

He sat next to her and grinned. “I was playing with the idea.” His face turned serious as he examined her. “Please tell me he is treating you right.”

“He treats me like a queen. He takes really good care of me.” She took a deep breath. “I didn’t mean to run away from you.”

“Why did you rush it though?”

“Please don’t judge or laugh or make stupid comments.”

His eyes traveled down to her stomach and widened as the realization hit him. “You’re knocked up, aren’t you?”

She nodded, her cheeks turning hot.

“Fuck, Niev. Please tell me you aren’t just with him because of that.”

“No. The girls are just a bonus.”

“Girlsss?” Jason asked as the blood faded from his face.

She shyly smiled and nodded. “Yes, twins.”

“You still didn’t have to run away like that.”

She sighed, wishing she could tell him the whole story. She wanted to explain to him why she’d rushed it, that Blake had been in danger and that the whole werewolf thing was the reason for her disappearance.

“I’m sorry Jason. I should’ve done it differently. I was just overwhelmed.”

“I could’ve helped you, you know?” His eyes were filled with pain, as if she’d wounded his pride. “I might be an idiot sometimes, but I would’ve been there for you.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Why did it take so long for you to come see me?”

“I thought you were mad at me, that you didn’t want to see me anymore.” But the truth was that she was busy saving lives or dealing with her healing abilities and werewolf attacks.
