Niev stepped back and sat her weak body on a rock. ‘I don’t either, but we’re here nevertheless. Maybe we should hear them out. Fallon only tried to do the right thing and I would rather know now than later.’

Blake growled for all to hear but agreed within the bond.

“We will hear you out.”

Blake shifted his weight and sat down. He was still protecting Niev with his massive body, but she could see Aurelius again. He looked very similar to Solomon, though his face seemed softer, and he didn’t ooze arrogance as Solomon did. He moved very slowly to a fallen tree and sat down on the trunk.

“Aurelius has been living on our territory for as long as our pack can remember. His father created our first alpha. Over the years, the knowledge of his existence faded from our legends. There was a time that his kind fought one another to extinction. He was one of the only born children of the true Lycans. He now lives peacefully hidden away in the mountains watching his father’s legacy grow and thrive.”

“Fallon came to me yesterday, telling me about our guests. I’ve watched with great pain as it slowly became clear that the Montanha Pack would have no male heir. When Fallon told me about you, my heart filled with joy. He told me about your encounter with Solomon and I was angered by his actions. His loneliness blinded him and led him down the wrong path. I’m truly sorry for what he put you through.”

“Did you know him?”

“I did, but as our kind faded so did our communication. I was not aware of his whereabouts nor of his plans. I have been hiding. No one but the alphas and betas of the Mountain Wolves know of my presence.”

Blake was carefully listening, his eyes burning a hole into Aurelius’s chest. ‘Why show himself to us?’

“Blake wants to know why you decided to reveal yourself to us.”

“Interesting. So it is true what Fallon has told me–you two are true mates.”

Niev nodded.

“Blake is the pack’s only hope. Without him they’ll fall apart. Fallon and I agreed that you should know the whole truth, given your past with Solomon.”

‘Why can’t he create his own alpha?’

“Couldn’t you just create your own alpha?”

“I could create a new wolf but even if he survives the transformation, it would not guarantee he would be capable of taking the alpha title.”

‘Solomon’s wolves all had alpha traits.’

“Blake said all of Solomon’s wolves had alpha traits.”

“I’m sure that is true, but how many men had to die during transformation and then after that when they turned out weaker than Solomon preferred?”

“He killed the ones he didn’t see fit?”

“I believe so. Solomon had always been very radical about his views. He was known to create his own packs long before I went into hiding.”

‘What does he want?’

“Blake would like to know what you want from us.”

“I wanted to get to know you. And of course, at some point I would like to see you as luna and your mate as alpha, but I’m not going to force any of it. It has been many years since I’ve seen one of our Goddess’ miracles.”

“You mean mine and Blake’s bond?”

“Yes, but not just that. Fallon has told me about your gifts.” He must have seen her confusion. “The gift of healing and the gifts you grow beneath your heart right now.”

“So you have seen…” She wasn’t quite sure how to ask about her healing ability. “Well… someone like me?”

“I have seen the Goddess work her miracles. In the beginning, many were blessed with her gifts. Some could craft the most wondrous things out of wood or wool, others could sense the animals around them. Others like you had the gift to heal, though yours is much stronger than anything I’ve ever heard of.”

“Why do you think that is?”

“I can only guess, but I do believe your bond with your wolf has awoken magic within you that has been hidden from you before.”
