“So, if Blake and I had never met, I would’ve never found this gift?”

“If the Goddess truly intended for you two to meet, you would have eventually.”

Suddenly realization hit her like a cold shower. ‘That night I saw you for the very first time was the night that I discovered my healing.’

‘The night in the corner store?’

‘Yes.’

She could feel as Blake thought back to that special night. ‘I can’t remember why I went into that store.’

‘Selene?’

‘I’m sure of it. She guided us to find one another again that night at Cliff’s gas station.’

‘She has been there all along.’

‘She has.’

Aurelius stood up. He was still moving cautiously, not wanting to alarm Blake. “It was a pleasure meeting you. I hope we can sit down and talk with one another again very soon.” He didn’t wait for an answer, instead walked between the rocks surrounding them and disappeared a few moments later.

Blake waited, his eyes staring to where Aurelius had disappeared. He then snapped his head around and let out a loud displeased growl. His muscles were tense again as he moved gracefully toward Fallon who quickly stepped away from Niev. Blake’s eyes burned into Fallon as he bowed his head. Just like when Tanner spoke a command, Blake’s aura glowed with dominance.

Fallon stood before Blake, his size seemingly reducing with each moment. “Please forgive me.”

Blake looked down on him for a few more moments before turning to her and gently nudging her, worry pushing through the bond.

‘I’m fine,’ she reassured him-

With his nose between her shoulders, he gently pushed her toward the water. His mind was swirling with all they’d just discovered. He even questioned his desire to be part of the pack.

‘Why do you question that?’

‘I won’t be able to trust Fallon, nor do I want to be close to one of them.’

‘Aurelius seemed to be different from Solomon.’

‘Maybe that’s what he wants us to believe.’

By the water, Niev took her shoes off and dipped her toes in. Fallon stayed behind and sat on a rock, seemingly uncomfortable.

‘I don’t think Fallon made this decision easily. He cared enough about our past that he was willing to risk himself to protect us and give us all the information we needed to make this life changing decision.’

‘What stops him from making decisions behind my back when I become alpha?’

‘Maybe that’s why he offered to be replaced before you even knew what he was going to do. What about Bill? I’m sure he has made many decisions without your father’s knowledge, maybe even without his blessing, and they still trust one another.’

‘So, you don’t think this might be an issue later on?’

‘I don’t know, but that’s something you two will have to talk about. If I remember correctly, most alphas and betas grow up together. You have to make up that lost time and that starts by talking.’

Niev waddled through the water while Blake watched her, thinking about what she’d said. Part of him appreciated what Fallon had done, but another part–his wolf mostly–disliked the breach of trust.

‘This reminds me of me and Seth. Only now, I’m in his shoes,’ Blake stated.

‘See? I told you talking would help. Look at you and Seth now. It took you two forever, but it worked. Learn from that and don’t drag out this issue for too long.’

The hike back was quiet and tense, though Fallon was very concerned about Niev. He seemed to feel bad about scaring her. They parted ways when the village came into sight, and Niev was a little relieved about it. This was between Fallon and Blake, and she didn’t want to be part of it. She gave Blake her advice and her thoughts on it, but the rest would have to be between the two of them.
