“His door is always open for you. I believe he is in his office right now.”
They walked to the office where Alpha Raymond was going through some paperwork. “Blake, how may I help you?”
“I was hoping we could speak.”
Alpha Raymond’s face slightly darkened. “I hope what you discovered yesterday doesn’t discourage you from taking our offer.”
“It is something Niev and I will have to discuss. Though that’s not why I’m here.”
Alpha Raymond nodded, his shadow darkening and his eyes flicking to Fallon for just a split second.
“Niev and I will be leaving tomorrow evening. Though we’ve enjoyed being here, I don’t want to overwhelm her even more.”
“Of course not. Her wellbeing has priority.”
“I’ll have to discuss your offer with my father and would like permission to do so.”
“You have my blessing. This is no decision to take lightly. I do wish that news does not travel to our pack–not before an official decision has been made.”
“I’ll make sure of it. There are many things to take into consideration while making our decision and my main concern is Niev and our daughters. We do understand that we’re in no means to make demands, but my wish would be that if we move, we have a permanent house that we can make ours before Niev gives birth.”
Blake was hoping that little things like that would make the transition easier for Niev.
“Of course. Charlotte has made me aware of such concerns and Fallon and I have a house in mind. It would be large enough for a big family. We have many hard-working men that will gladly work to make it yours.”
“That is very kind of you. Niev has already started nesting and knowing that we’ll have a home will ease her mind quite a bit.”
“We’ll do anything to make the transition for her as easy as possible,” Fallon reassured.
“What other concerns do you have?”
Blake worked down a mental list of his questions. He wanted to be sure that all details had been discussed, such as his work placement and his internship under Alpha Raymond. He asked questions that he knew Niev would appreciate, such as what her role would be or how the Montanha Wolves schooled their children. He even asked if it was possible for his mother and sister to visit for the last month of pregnancy so they could be there for the birth.
He asked any question that came to mind, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem. Every pack worked differently, and he wanted to know every tiny detail of this pack before committing to it. He asked about the financials, how the pack handled money and shortage thereof. Apparently, the Montanha Pack was quite wealthy though they seemed quite modest.
Alpha Raymond and Fallon were very patient with him. They saw it as a business transaction as much as finding the right match for a new family member. He asked them about their relationship and what they valued in an alpha. He wanted to be sure that they didn’t clash over opposing views. Alpha Raymond made it a point to tell Blake how much he trusted Fallon, that he’d been an excellent beta and always put his pack’s needs before everything else.
Blake was pleased to hear that Luna Charlotte already saw Niev as a daughter and had secretly adopted Aruna and Emlyn has her granddaughters. He knew that Alpha Raymond didn’t say it to pressure him. He simply wanted to make sure Blake and Niev knew they weren’t without family if they decided to be part of their pack.
Blake returned to Niev late in the afternoon. She was sitting on the porch with Kareem by her side. He looked around, confused–he’d expected to see Ann.
“She is with her friends’ book circle. They meet once a week,” Niev explained.
He nodded and gently pulled her to her feet, kissing her in the process. He swiped her chair, pulling her into his lap as he sat down. “What have you been up to?”
“Sleeping… eating… the usual.” She seemed curious to find out about his conversation with Fallon and Alpha Raymond but didn’t ask about it in front of Kareem.
“How about we cook dinner together?” He turned to Kareem. “Will you and Ann join us?”
“We would love to. She said she would be back on time, but they often lose track when they start talking,” Kareem chuckled.
Kareem was right–Ann only joined them once the table was already set. When Blake broke the news about them leaving, Ann was sad but understood and promised she would come visit for the twin’s birth. Though Ann offered, Niev wanted to wash the dishes herself and reassured Ann that she wasn’t a bad host because of it.
As soon as Kareem and Ann had left, Blake picked Niev up and sat her on the counter next to the sink. He filled up the sink and handed her a towel.
“Would you like to hear what we talked about today?”
Niev nodded. “First what you and Fallon talked about.”
