“Is he too far for you to feel him?” Lyliann asked curiously as they walked back in.

“Yes.”

“I’m sure he’ll call you tomorrow morning.” Mayra reassured her.

Niev sat down on the couch where Seth and Darron were reading books, while Lyliann and Mayra sat together chatting. It was odd knowing that Blake was going to be so far away. She’d gotten so used to having him close, especially after their bond had been established. She turned to Seth, who had finished his book.

“And how does it feel to be in charge?” she asked, trying to take her mind off Blake’s absence.

He grinned. “Ask me tomorrow when I have to look over the paperwork Father has left behind.”

“I’m sure you and Bear will have lots of fun,” she giggled.

He laughed before turning serious. “How does it feel to be luna-in-waiting?”

“I honestly don’t know,” she admitted. “I haven’t wanted to give it much thought, but I do hope I’ll be half as good as you.” She added a smile to her last words as she looked over at Mayra.

“Oh sweetheart, you’ll do fantastic.”

“If there is trouble on the loose, you’ll just hand the twins over to Blake while you take care of it,” Seth laughed, earning himself a scolding glare from Mayra.

“I think Blake will do wonderful too.”

“Of course, he will! I never doubted that, Mother.”

They sat with each other until Darron had fallen asleep in Seth’s arms. Seth offered for Niev to walk with him and Lyliann, so they all said their good nights to Mayra and walked out.

With Darron in his arms, Seth studied Niev. “Would you like me to walk you home?”

“That is very sweet of you but unless you believe there will be another kidnapping, I think I’ll be okay.”

He nodded. “I don’t believe that will be the case.”

“You can come by anytime you like.”

“Thank you, Lyliann. I think Olivia wanted to come and check on me too and we still have things to plan for her ceremony.”

“If you two need any help just let me know.”

Niev waved them goodbye and started walking toward the little path that would take her home.

The night was quite unsettling, with her being awake more than she slept. By the time dawn approached she texted Blake, telling him she was awake and that he could call at any time.

About forty minutes later, her phone started to ring, and she quickly picked up.

“Hi.”

“Good morning, beautiful.”

“How was your night?”

“It was good. We were able to get more distance than we initially thought.”

“Ah, so Tanner isn’t as slow as I thought,” she giggled.

She heard a grunt in the background and her smile brightened.

“Why couldn’t you sleep, beautiful?”
