“Just have to get used to you not being here. It reminded me of the night I spent with Solomon. It just didn’t feel good, you know?” She sensed that he would start to feel guilty and quickly added, “I don’t want you to feel bad or anything. I just want to share my feelings.”
“I know. It feels awfully quiet without you.”
“Will you be resting now?”
“Yes. We found a good spot and will try and get some sleep in.”
“Sleep well then. And you can call at any time.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
She hung up the phone and curled back up, wanting to try and get some sleep.
Though her dreams were restless she was able to get some rest and only woke up because of a gentle knock on the front door. Niev quickly stretched and stood up.
“I’m coming!”
Rushing to the door, she opened it and was met with Olivia’s sweet smile.
“Oh I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“It’s okay. What time is it anyway?”
“Almost noon. I thought maybe you wanted to have lunch together.” She smiled shyly.“Or maybe breakfast for you?”
“I do, but I still have to let Christa know about our move. How about we have breakfast–well lunch–together and then I go talk to Christa. We can meet up again later and organize your big day?”
“Sounds great.”
Niev always enjoyed her time with Olivia. Slowly but surely, she was blooming like a flower that had been suppressed for a very long time. It was amazing to see how much love and friendship could heal. Though she’d made great progress, she was still nervous when it came to the rest of the pack–especially Tristan’s mother. If it were up to Olivia, she would want a small ceremony without the whole pack present.
After lunch, Niev walked over to Christa. She’d wanted to see her sooner, but with the news and her feeling overwhelmed, she hadn’t felt up to it.
Niev knocked on the door and opened it after being called inside. Christa was sitting in her armchair reading a book.
“Daughter of Snow, how wonderful to see you! How was your trip? “
Niev sat down on the couch and felt right at home. “I come with news.”
“You seem sad.”
“I guess I’m just exhausted… and a little overwhelmed.”
Christa set the book aside and gave Niev a soft smile, turning her full attention to her.
“Alpha Raymond of the Montanha Pack has offered for Blake to take the alpha title and we’ve accepted the invitation to join his pack. We’ll be moving before the twins are due to arrive.”
Instantly, Christa’s face saddened. “You’ll be leaving us.”
“I’m sorry.”
“My dear, I don’t believe there is anything to apologize for. I’m just sad because I’ll miss you greatly. I believe the whole pack will.”
There was a pause between the two of them while Christa processed the news and in which Niev didn’t know what to say without tearing up.
“Have you met Natalie yet? She’s a wonderful midwife and if you like I can talk to her about your pregnancy so far.”
