“Welcome home,” Fallon beamed.
Relief settled within Niev’s heart and soul. It was something she hadn’t expected but welcomed, nevertheless. Though she was still anxious, excitement for their future started to rise in her heart.
“It feels good to be here,” she admitted.
Fallon parked the truck with Kareem next to them by the garage. Niev climbed out of the truck taking a deep breath, inhaling the fresh air of her new home. As Blake and Kareem grabbed the most important bags, Niev saw Charlotte and Raymond walk up.
As soon as she was in reach, Charlotte pulled Niev into a hug. “Welcome home.” She did the same with Blake before turning to Ann and Kareem. “Welcome back you two. How was the drive?” she asked the group.
“I think Blake and Kareem are quite glad we're finally here. Ann and I kept making them stop so we could pee,” Niev giggled.
“How about all of you get some rest before we do anything else?” Raymond suggested.
Blake nodded in agreement and took Niev’s hand in his. “Excited to see your new home?”
“Very.”
Walking alongside Charlotte and Raymond, Niev and Blake made their way through the village followed by Kareem, Ann, and Fallon. Kareem and Fallon talked about the trip and caught each other up on work stuff.
They led Niev to a house at the edge of the village, closer to the mountain and Selene’s tree. It had a cute little porch with colorful wildflowers growing before it and two inviting rocking chairs out front.
“This is ours?”
“It is.”
“I have stocked the fridge but please let me know if there is anything else you two need,” Charlotte offered.
“I know you two have just arrived, but we thought about having your joining ceremony tomorrow evening,” Raymond added.
Niev nervously walked in the house behind Blake. “Sounds good to me.”
Fallon and Kareem waited outside while Raymond, Charlotte, and Ann followed them inside. Niev had expected anything, but nothing as cozy and homey as this. It wasn’t like her old home, but it felt as if it had the potential to become her new place of comfort. The kitchen was to their right, slightly closed off to the living room on their left. The couch was big and overflowing with pillows, a fluffy carpet before it. On the kitchen counter was a large flower bouquet with an envelope that read Welcome Home.
“Thank you,” Niev whispered, trying to take it all in.
“We thought you two should get some rest and this afternoon whenever you are ready, we will help you move in all your belongings,” Raymond suggested.
“Sounds good to us.”
“We’ve asked the pack to let you two settle in and not storm you on your first day. Although I believe Natalie will come by at some point this afternoon to check on you, Niev.”
“Thank you, Raymond.”
Gesturing for the two women to follow him, Raymond walked out and closed the door behind them. Blake wrapped his arms around her and placed kisses all over her neck and shoulder.
“I know this doesn’t feel like it right now, but hopefully as soon as we make it ours it will slowly feel like our forever home.”
“It feels like we are on the right path.”
“How about we cuddle and sleep a little?”
“Sounds like my kinda morning, but we should set an alarm.”
“Good idea.”
She followed him down the hallway, where they passed two smaller bedrooms, a closet, and bathroom, which had a big bathtub, before entering their bedroom. To her relief, they already had a king-sized bed that was covered in pillows and lots of blankets.
“Charlotte was afraid you might be cold. She told me she was always freezing when she was pregnant, even in the summers.”
