“She reminds me of Mayra.”
“They do have a lot in common,” Blake laughed as he unpacked their bags and handed her some comfy clothes.
As soon as she laid down, cuddled up to Blake, and closed her eyes, she fell asleep. Her dreams were peaceful and unlike most days before they were restful. She only woke up when she heard Blake’s alarm go off and felt his lips on her forehead.
“Just a little longer,” she begged, not wanting to open her eyes.
“How about I get you some food and you can slowly wake up?” Blake suggested, yawning, and still fighting sleep himself.
“No, I might not get up at all if I stay. I’ll most likely just fall back to sleep.”
She climbed out of bed with him and got dressed before following Blake into the kitchen. They had a late lunch and then left to go to the trucks. The weather had cooled down slightly, and Niev was glad she’d opted to wear a cardigan.
Blake led her around the village, likely knowing she wasn’t ready to be put in the spotlight. It reminded her of their walk to Christa a few months ago, the one they took before the battle with the Skadu Pack after she’d agreed to heal all the men for said fight. It felt like a lifetime ago.
“Because the village is so far away from everything, there is a storage place right over there.” Blake pointed to their right. “They have most of the long-lasting foods and other items you might need there. All you have to do is write down what you took so it can be restocked.”
“So, anyone can go in there?”
“Yes.”
“There are certain people who have talents such as sewing or knitting or plumbing. I started to make a list with names, so you know who to go to for help if you ever need it.”
“People rely more on each other here.”
“Yes. Because they’re so far away from everything they can’t just go out and buy new things, they fix what they have.”
She nodded.
“They have it organized like Mother and Lyliann where they offer to go once a month for everyone, but they take turns. Some don’t always go and just give a list of items they want.”
“I’ll have to get used to that. Buying for a whole month is a lot of planning.”
Blake chuckled. “Not just you. If we forget something, I’ll run to the store.”
“Yeah, I’ll see you in five hours or so.”
Blake had a talent to make her laugh and make her worries seem less heavy–she loved that about him. Holding on to him tighter, she stretched and kissed his shoulder.
As they were looking through the trucks to see if everything had survived the trip, Fallon approached with two other men.
“The blond one is Mark, and the redhead is Kayus. They are two of the pack’s warriors.”
“Ah, he’s bringing the big guns,” Niev giggled, totally forgetting about wolf hearing.
The two men grinned and Niev turned red within an instant.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it in a bad way.”
With a grin, Mark stretched his hand out and greeted her. “No offense taken.”
Kayus also took Niev’s hand to greet her. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
The men got to work right away with Niev aimlessly standing around, watching as they decided what to take first. When they had themselves organized, Blake handed her a small bag which had some of the girls clothes and stuffed animals.
“Most important one,” he said, kissing her forehead.
“At least I’m allowed to carry something.”
