Blake pulled back and let her walk to the bedroom where she fell to her knees before the bed and silenced her sobs in the mattress.

Agony

Blake watched helplessly as Niev sobbed into the mattress with Natalie by her side. He’d never felt this weak and useless. Niev was in agony, her mind being crushed by her physical pain. He couldn’t help but see himself as the fault for her torture. After all, she was bearing his children.

He stepped out, unable to watch her suffer. Out of her sight he leaned against the wall and closed his eyes, running his hand over his face. He flinched as an unexpected hand touched his arm. Opening his eyes, he saw Lyliann smile gently at him.

“Have you eaten?”

“I’m not hungry.”

“You should eat. You’ll need all your strength if you want to be there for her.”

“She doesn’t even want me.”

Lyliann sternly pulled him to the kitchen where she handed him a freshly made sandwich. “Eat while I tell you a secret.”

He forced himself to take a bite and swallow it.

“She probably hates you right now. This isn’t what she wanted and everything she has been afraid of.” She handed him a glass of water. “But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need you, because she does. You two have a very special bond, and the way I understand it is that you can soothe one another just by a small touch. You’re her only escape from the pain, but she is too deep in to realize it.”

“She doesn’t want me.”

“I didn’t want Seth either, but now I’m glad he was there, even if he wasn’t much help. Niev needs you whether she sees it or not. Don’t let her push you away. Make her see that you are there to soothe her. You are the closest thing she has to pain medication. Help her see it and she’ll forever be thankful you did.”

Blake finished the sandwich and glass of water before taking a deep breath.

“Good, calm your own emotions. She needs you to be a rock and anchor and you can’t be that if you are a storm on the inside.”

He nodded and watched Lyliann walk to the bedroom with a bottle of water and a straw. Blake tried to take her advice and calm his inner workings before he followed her.

Niev was drinking some water when he stepped into the room, still kneeling on the floor and holding her stomach. Tears were still running down her cheeks, her eyes red and swollen. Lyliann gave him an encouraging smile before placing the water bottle on the side table. She gave Natalie a nod, signaling for her to leave the room with her.

Blake waited for the women to leave before he grabbed a pillow and kneeled behind Niev. He laid the pillow on the floor and was relieved when she shifted her knees onto it without hesitation.

Her head and arms rested on the mattress, her hips swaying side to side as she tried to prepare for the next wave of pain. Tugging on her dress, he pulled it over her head and did the same with his. He leaned forward and wrapped his arms around her, placing his hands underneath her bump, holding and supporting its weight. He’d expected her to lean into his touch. When she didn’t, he pressed his chest and stomach gently against her bare back and shoulders, hoping the touch would take away some of the pain.

With the next contraction, she tried to pull away, but he didn’t let her. Though he was afraid he would only enrage her, he listened to Lyliann’s advice. Instead of letting her go through the next contraction alone, he held and pressed kisses all over her neck. She only fought him for a moment before giving in. He continued to caress her, even past her contraction and slowly but surely, she leaned into his touch.

After another contraction, he moved his right hand between her thighs, wanting to give her something other than pain.

“No.” Her voice was weak but stern.

“No one else is here.”

“Blake, please,” she begged.

“Just let me try to take your pain, give you something else to think about.”

“Not this,” she cried.

“I don’t have anything else to give you,” he hummed against her ear as his fingertip found her clit. “Let us try it and if it doesn’t help by the next two contractions I’ll stop.”

“Promise?”

“I promise,” he reassured her.

Though hesitant she nodded.
