“The one that messes with you?”

“The one that makes you smile. Even before you moved in with us you were very shy and barely talked. Your face was always hiding in a book—I hardly ever saw your smile.”

“You’re not as easy to tease though. Messing with Asher is so much easier.”

“I’m just better at hiding it.”

“So, I do get under your skin?”

“Yes.” He wasn’t ashamed to admit it.

“Were you angry yesterday when I told you about Heath?”

“Yes, but I can also see your side.”

“Which is why you take on the diplomatic side of the pack while Asher… Well, I’m not exactly sure what he does.”

“I’m the brain and he’s the brawn.”

She slowly started moving again. “So, if I ever need someone to be beaten up, he’s the one to call.”

“Yes, but I’m sure you’re more than capable of doing so yourself.”

She laid the pads and the snacks on the counter. “Yeah, but sometimes it’s nice not having to get your hands dirty.”

“You didn’t get any pain meds,” Isaiah noticed.

“It’s not that bad.”

“It could get bad.” He turned and quickly walked back to grab some pills just in case before returning and paying for everything.

This time, Ash took the wheel while Vel dozed off in the passenger’s seat.

‘We need to get condoms.’

‘What the fuck?’ Ash snapped. ‘I’m not fucking with another woman.’

Ash’s mind went straight to other women because it hadn’t crossed his mind using them with Vel. He wanted Vel to carry his child. That was the primary reason the bond existed.

‘Of course, I want that! You shouldn’t even be thinking of that when she’s hardly speaking to us.’

‘Because the time will come,’ Isaiah reasoned. ‘And when it does, she won’t want to get pregnant.’

Isaiah could feel his brother’s heart sink. ‘She has to.’

‘One step at a time. Don’t forget, if we force her, we lose her.’

‘I don’t want to lose her.’

‘Then we have to play her game.’

‘I’m not sure I can do this.’

‘We don’t have a choice.’
