“We have not thought about anyone yet,” Isaiah answered, reading her mind.
“Okay.”
Detlef appeared to check her over one last time, then cleared her to go home. It was close to noon when they made the journey back to the alpha house, and the entire pack seemed just as restless as she felt. There was so much unknown in the air that it made goosebumps appear all over the skin.
Asher promptly planted Velora on the couch with a cup of tea while he and Isaiah worked on lunch. With her eyes closed, she dozed off to the sounds of them clanging around in the kitchen. She only stirred again when the couch next to her dipped and the mouthwatering smell of garlic bread crept up her nose.
“Eat this and we’ll help you up to bed,” Asher suggested, handing her a bowl with bread and noodles.
She sighed, shook her head, and placed her food on her lap. “No, there’s too much to take care of.”
“For us, not you,” Isaiah corrected as he took the empty seat next to her. “You’re injured. Your only job is to rest.”
“You two are just as fucked up as I am… You just hide it better.”
“What a complement,” Asher laughed. “At least we know you’re recovering well and didn’t bang your head.”
“You are luna,” Isaiah told her. “As luna you have the great benefit of letting your alphas handle all the shit you don’t feel like doing—no matter how fucked up they are.”
Asher only laughed harder. “I’m sure some lunas take a whole vacation when they break a nail. And you look like someone shoved you through a meat grinder.”
Isaiah shot daggers across to his brother before returning his loving gaze to Velora. “I think you still look phenomenal.”
“Fucking ass kisser,” Asher muttered.
“Happily.”
“Maybe not today,” she giggled. “I could use a shower.”
Asher’s gaze drifted off, then he gave her a warm smile. “Detlef said you can shower, but not soak. Don’t rub over the stitches and leave the band aids on. He will bring fresh ones shortly to replace them.”
Velora let out a frustrated groan and dropped her gaze to her lap. “So much work and so little energy.”
“Well, Isaiah and I are happy to help you.”
“Maybe get some sleep and recharge that energy and then we can help you, okay?”
Velora nodded and finished up her lunch. Then Asher helped her upstairs to bed while Isaiah stacked the nightstand with her favourite snacks—including her caramel chocolate. She fell asleep with a man on either side, soothing her with gentle touches.
When she awoke, the sun was just setting over the western horizon. She stretched, forgetting about her injuries until pain shot through a million different points in her body. She whimpered and curled into herself. Asher’s mind leaned against hers while Isaiah threw open the bedroom door—but he didn’t dare step in.
“What happened?”
“I moved,” she laughed, trying to brush off the pain. Though part of her was scared to move again.
“Didn’t we say you don’t have to do anything alone?” Isaiah scolded with a smirk.
She rolled her lips into a pout. “I was only stretching after waking up alone.”
“May I come in?”
She nodded and slowly pushed herself to a sitting position. “Tell me what I missed.”
Isaiah sighed and sat on the edge of the bed, stealing a chocolate bar—for himself. “They arrived with Ely’s body. Asher is with him preparing the ceremony.”
“Why not you?” though she already knew the answer.
His glossy eyes darted around the room. “I… I can’t.”
