“I think you have to.”
“Vel…”
“Listen to me.” Velora waited for Isaiah to shut his mouth before she continued. “I know you don’t want to, but you have to. Talk to him. Say your last words and do so without anyone around. You will regret it if you don’t.”
He didn’t answer, only twisting a piece of the chocolate wrapper around in his fingers. She knew exactly why he was having such a hard time. Ely had been his right hand—or maybe left since Asher was his right?—and at the same time he had hurt and violated her so deeply. Isaiah wasn’t sure who his loyalties should lie with.
Velora slid to the edge of the bed, wanting to try and brighten Isaiah’s mood—if only a little bit. “How about that shower?”
His shoulders straightened and he finally met her eyes. “Of course. Let me grab the bag Detlef brought by.”
“I’ll grab some clothes.”
Fifteen minutes later she sat at the edge of the bathtub, waiting for Isaiah to warm up the water and get a shower chair situated beneath the spray. The moment she’d asked, Asher insisted on joining and was on his way up the stairs. The ever-strengthening bond not only allowed her to hear their thoughts, but she could sense whenever they were nearby. For now, she was able to shut them out when she chose to—but that would change once she was marked.
“What is on your mind?” Isaiah asked as he helped her out of her shirt.
“How I won’t be able to pull away from you once you’ve marked me.”
“Tell her what you told me,” Asher encouraged as he stepped into the room.
“I have heard rumours about Luna Mellowic that she was able to resist the link.”
“Was?” she repeated disappointedly.
“I’m not sure how much she was able to retain, but the rumours say that at some points she could block out Alpha Kaine completely.”
“I thought that was at the very beginning when they met,” Velora said. “It probably didn’t hold as long.”
“I’m sure she still gives him hell, just like you will give us. You won’t lose sight of who you are just because you wear our mark.”
“Ash is right. You’ll still be you no matter what happens.”
Asher took her hand and helped her to her feet. “I like having you around. I’m right more often.”
Isaiah rolled his eyes and began to undress.
While she waited, Velora sat on the stool and let the water drops hit and massage her shoulders and back. Her muscles relaxed under the spray, soothing the fire burning through them.
When they stepped into the shower with her, she allowed herself a moment to study their bodies. She’d never paid much attention to them, not even when they’d had sex. Even naked, they were identical—immaculate even.
“I wouldn’t mind if you shared what’s on your mind right now,” Asher teased, though sparks of hope and insecurity peeked through.
“You’re still identical. I mean, there’s no scars or anything.”
With a playful grin Asher spun so she could see his back. “I can proudly say I do have one or two.”
Now that she could see his back, it was true. There were two small scars on his shoulder blade. Though when she realised what they were from, her stomach twisted.
Asher shrugged and knelt before her. “I asked for that.”
“I think he deserved it,” Isaiah agreed, handing his brother the shower gel before tracing a scar on her back with his finger. “Tell us about this one.”
Asher briefly peeked to see where his brother pointed at before returning to massaging her feet.
“A rogue fight.”
“Ah, so our luna is a rogue magnet as well as an alpha magnet.”
