“Come sit down. Then you can tell me all about how misbehaved Rayan is.”
“I’m right here, you know?”
“Well make yourself useful and grab some cups.”
She offered to help, but they insisted she relax while they set the table. It felt odd to have everyone work around her while she watched. More and more warriors appeared until every seat at the eight-foot table was filled. The air vibrated as laughter and conversations erupted, which she loved listening to. Once the food had been demolished, some began to clean up while others turned on a movie.
Before she could even think about helping, Rayan’s hand laid on her shoulder. “I wrote down the schedule so you know what’s going on,” he explained, laying a piece of paper in front of her. “We’ll patrol together until you’re ready to be alone. It means more running, but also more practice for both of us.”
She instantly felt guilty. “I’m sorry.”
“Unless you’ve actually fucked up, I don’t want you to apologize for anything.”
She nodded, colour rushing to her cheeks.
“What time have you been meeting up with Alpha Heath?”
“Four or five.”
He groaned. “Fucking shit… Why would you do that to yourself?”
“I’m not the best sleeper.”
“I guess I’ll need to add a nap to my own schedule.”
“We can meet later if you want.”
“No. I’m way too proud not to at least try and keep up with him.”
She looked over the schedule he’d handed her. “Maybe you can add one after you’ve had lunch?”
“And I’m guessing you’re not gonna join?”
Now her face was on fire.
“Oh shit… That came out wrong. I meant to ask if you would also add your own nap, a private nap in your own house,” he rambled.
A giggle pushed past her lips which surprised even her. When had been the last time she’d giggled like a little schoolgirl?
“Whatever you’re doing keep going because that was cute as fuck!” Keelan chimed in from the living room.
“Let’s hope I can keep up,” Rayan groused. “C’mon, let me walk you home.”
“What a gentleman you are,” Leroy laughed.
“You’d just give me shit if I didn’t offer.”
“True.”
With Rayan by her side, she walked out into the cool evening air.
“Can I ask you something?” Rayan asked shyly.
“Yes.”
“It might be invasive, and you have every right not to answer.”
“Okay.”
