After about an hour, Ash let out a frustrated sound. “Fuck this!” He stood and turned off the TV.
Isaiah chuckled and watched as his brother stormed to the door.
“Get your ass up. We’re going to get our luna.”
“What are you going to do?” Though Isaiah laughed, he willingly followed his brother. “Hunt her down like a feral animal?”
“If that’s what it takes.”
“Maybe we should go see if she’s home first.”
“Fine,” Ash relented. “Anything that doesn’t include sitting around and wasting time.”
Ash had always been the more impatient of the two, always getting in trouble because he couldn’t sit still. They followed the path to her cabin for a second time that day and yet again found it empty. Just as Ash seemed as if he would explode, they heard leaves rustle behind them.
Turning to the noise, they saw a familiar wolf approach them—the disobedient one from their first day. By his side was a man who had his face bruised and a freshly busted lip, zipping up his shorts. As his eyes fell on Isaiah and Ash his jaw clenched.
He stayed close to the wolf’s side as they stepped up to the porch and the man retrieved something from beneath it. They watched, confused as he turned to face them, using his body as a shield for the wolf—like the man wanted to protect him.
Asher’s irritation was palpable, and Isaiah could feel the beginning of his own creeping under his skin.
The wolf shifted and Isaiah’s jaw dropped. Vel stood behind the man who handed her a dress over his shoulder.
‘Shit,’ Ash gasped.
‘That explains everything.’
‘Our luna is a fucking wolf!’
Isaiah chuckled, letting him feel it through the bond as his chest swelled with pride.
“Are you sure?” the man asked her.
“I am. I love you for protecting me, but I don’t need any drama right now.”
“Damn, girlie.”
“Don’t go behind my back, Rayan.”
“I know better than to get on your bad side. I’ve learned my lesson—I’m still bleeding from it.”
“You should’ve told Marvin to stop me.”
“Fuck no, I do have some semblance of pride.”
She playfully punched him on the shoulder and nudged him to leave. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Bright and early as always,” the man laughed and walked off in the direction of the village.
She was smiling, but when her eyes fell on them, her face hardened. She squared her shoulders and held her head high.
“Who was that?” Ash asked.
“The guy I fuck on Tuesdays.”
Even Ash couldn’t hold back his surprise, swallowing a laugh at the quick retort.
“We’d like to meet him,” Isaiah said, hoping to break the ice.
