“She’s going to need you. Those same things happened to me. Be gentle with her.”

Knight looked up to see his little sister, Delaney standing in the doorway, dwarfed by Ellis and Donovan. God help the fucker who harmed his sweet, innocent sister.

“What do you mean the same thing happened to you, Dee?” Donovan asked, making Knight stop in his tracks.

“My car wasn’t in an accident. The windows were shattered, headlights bashed in, there was a scratch on both sides going from the trunk all the way to the front. All four tires were slashed. The seats were slashed as well with the stuffings taken out of them. The asshole demolished my car. Then the night of my assault, a dead animal was sent to me in a box. When I went to the bedroom, I was assaulted. He kept calling me a whore and that I wasn’t worthy. When he moved to grab my legs, I kicked him in the crotch and took him out with a book to his face. I ran. By the time the cops got here, he was gone.” Delaney O’Rourke cried out as she relayed the horror of what truly happened to her.

CHAPTER EIGHT

Avery woke slowly. She was sore and exhausted. Suddenly remembering why she was sore. She jerked fully awake and sat up.

She took in her surroundings, noticing she wasn’t at home in her own bed. When she started to get out of the bed, the door opened, and a beautiful woman came in carrying in a tray with food and juice.

“Oh, good! You’re awake. I brought you breakfast. Devlin will be back in a little while. He and Thomas had to escort Donovan to a meeting. How are you feeling?”

Avery couldn’t help but stare at the woman in confusion. “Where am I? Who’s Devlin? Better question is who are you?”

“Oh my God! I’m so sorry. I’m Delaney. I keep forgetting he has everyone call him Knight. So, now that that’s cleared up, how are you feeling? I put some tylenol on the tray too in case you had a headache.”

“Um, where am I?” Avery repeated her question.

“Oh, crap. You asked that. I’m sorry. Knight brought you back to his place last night. By the time we got back from Boston, you were out. He didn’t want to take you back to your place after the horror you already went through, so he brought you back to his sanctuary.”

“Wait a minute! Knight was out of town with his girlfriend until Laney called him, against my wishes, and he brings me to his place so his girlfriend can play fucking nurse maid to the fat chick?”

Avery couldn’t help the tears that were streaming down her cheeks at the embarrassment of the situation. Everything her mother, stepfather and sister had ever said to her rushed to the surface, making her feel trapped.

Seeing the ensuite bathroom, she ran in there, slamming the door and locking it. She slid down the door to the floor and curled up in a ball and sobbed her heart out in the bathroom.

She jerked awake when she felt arms pick her up off the floor. She yelped when she was tossed onto the bed then turned over onto her stomach.

When she tried to scramble off of the bed, she was pulled to the edge where she was then placed onto her feet then pulled over Knight’s lap. She yelled out when he started spanking her ass through her flimsy robe. She received ten smacks before he let her up, forcing her to sit in his lap sideways, facing him.

“That’s a warning, Tiffany. You disrespect yourself like that again, or me, and the next ass whipping will guarantee you won’t sit down for a week.” Knight advised her, his voice dark and angry.

“Tiffany? That makes you Chucky. Chucky never spanked Tiffany. What do you mean disrespect me or you? How the hell do you think I did that asshole?” Avery fired back, glaring at Knight.

“Maybe if Chucky had spanked Tiffany’s ass, then the movies would have been more fun to watch! Now, on to your disrespect. You accused me of being in Boston with a girlfriend after I had my face between your legs, my tongue in that sweet pussy of yours. Then made the accusation I would have the same woman playing nurse maid to you. Let’s get some things straight. Yes, I am an asshole, but I don’t fuck around if I’m in a relationship. I never make a promise I won’t keep. I went to Boston with my brother and Thomas because my sister was assaulted. That woman you accused of being my girlfriend is in fact my sister. She heard about your assault and wanted to come and be here for you since she had just been assaulted and felt that you would have been more comfortable talking to her than me.”

Avery felt the color drain from her face at Knight’s statement. She was horrified at what he had just revealed to her.

“Oh my God!”

“Now, I accept the blame for not leaving you a note about who Delaney is or where you are. That’s on me.” Knight advised as he gripped her chin to look into her eyes.

“I-I’m sorry.” Avery sniffled as she got off Knight’s lap and paced the room for a few seconds.

Her mind raced with how horrible she must have looked when she went off on the poor woman. Covering her face, she walked to the far wall and slid down to the floor and wished the floor would open up and just swallow her.

“She’s not angry with you. She’s upset with me.” Knight admitted as he moved over to where Avery was sitting and slid down the wall next to her.

Avery looked over at Knight, studying him. While he looked clean and refreshed, she could see the dark circles under his eyes and the five-day old beard stubble on his face. It made him look darker, more dangerous.

“Can you tell me what happened last night, Avery?”

“Been a stressful week.” Avery sighed deeply as she leaned her head back against the wall.

“I’m sorry.” Knight leaned his head against hers on the wall.
